Accident with new 992
Hey folks,
Been enjoying my new 992 (in Texas) over the past couple months. What an amazing car!
Unfortunately today, an SUV backed into me and banged up / scratched up the front right side. Think the low slung nature of the car prevented the SUV from seeing me as the driver backed out. Anyway, after some restrained curses, got down to filing a claim, etc. and the insurance process has started.
Any tips for this situation? Concerned a bit about the carfax report, etc. Should I just go with what my insurance company suggests for the body shop repair shop, etc.? Should ask for a payout? Will the value decrease? Any other considerations?

Sucks, luckily looks like minor damage. Porsche authorized body shop. File a diminished value claim, might need a lawyer/agency to help you get the max amount.

Thanks. Considering I just field a claim with Progressive, should I now call back to modify the claim into a diminished value claim or should I file a new one in addition?

I believe its separate, also regulations varies by state. Might be useful to contact somebody with experience with these claims.

Luckily the black will be an easy color to blend or may not even need to be. Is it solid or jet black?

Use a Porsche Certified Collision Center. It doesn't look terrible. Providing that you plan on holding onto the car for a long while, no big deal.

Sometimes ya just gotta post a dumb comment to lighten the grief. Living in a city ... I drive with my left index finger on the brights, left middle finger on the paddle and right thumb on the horn.
Damn scary out there. Good luck.. it will be fine.

If someone backs into you, always try to get an independent witness because it's pretty common for people to accuse you of rear ending them. Hopefully the suv driver stays honest. Similar thing happened to me when a woman first admitted to hitting me. She later explained how at the police department, the officer told her it looks like I could have been at fault. So that's what she went with. I had to cover half the damage because neither of us had a witness.

Man that sucks.. I learned the hard way not to report small stuff like that to the authorities or insurance company. Had something similar on one of my other cars, just paid the $3-4k out of pocket to fix it. Much better than the $15k+ hit you'll take if it ends up on the carfax.

So now your insurance company has to deal with the at fault drivers insurance company to get adequate compensation to fix your Porsche back to new? Good luck with that.
As I get older, I made sure that any new car I get (recently got a EV) has sensors and systems that not only warn me if I’m going to back into or over something, but more importantly, will automatically slam on the brakes to prevent such an accident. Saved my *** once. While backing my EV out iof the garage, my wife, while gardening, had inadvertently (forgetfulness?) left a metal rake, with the prongs facing up, near the back of my car. It was too low to the ground to see on the car’s backup camera, but the sensors picked it up and stopped the car before I ran over and punctured a tire.
