Default 992 Carrera S with 315/30/21 Tires - N Spec?

Hi!

I originally posted a question in PCA’s technical forum since they posted a really good article on N spec tires, but the group doesn’t seem as responsive as all of the contributors here but I felt like I needed to try.

In a prior post I noted I have a new to me 2020 992 Carrera S Cab with 255/35/20 and 315/30/21 P4S. I don’t plan to take my car on the track or anything, but I’m curious about the N spec tires. The only Michelin tire with the “NA” designation for my model is for the stock size, but since the larger size I have is for the Turbo would I replace them with the N tire for the Turbo or just not concern myself at all at that point with the N designation? Right now the car has what appears to non car/model specific tires.

Thank you!!

if your not running original tire size and not tracking the only thing your gaining is a rougher ride .

Tread layups can vary greatly between standard tire model, and manufacturers' spec:

Thanks! So it sounds like there’s still a benefit to getting the Porsche specific tuned for the Turbo, despite me having a Carrera? I didn’t know if the difference in weight distribution etc. between the two cars would make the tire not suitable for me.

I think the 255/315 turbo sized N spec PS4S would be totally suited to your Carrera. Weight distribution is near identical and both cars have vastly more in common with each other than differences.

I don't think Michelin is tuning for model "trim level", as much as "manufacturer", and/or "manufacturer car model".

@AlterZgo - Thanks! Although my driving is a bit mundane, I do like the idea of setting up the car as close to what was originally intended so the N spec tires sound appealing.

As of yet, there is no N-spec PS4S for the 992 turbo series.

OP, are you adamant in keeping the oversized 255/315 tires?

Going with a wider tire on a given wheel width can actually degrade performance. Car and tire manufacturers go through great length to develop optimized spec tires for a given vehicle. The N-spec PS4S in 245/305 size are optimized for your car and your car's wheel width. If it were my car, I would go with the newly released 245/35R20 and 305/30R21 N-spec PS4S.

Thanks! I’m glad you caught it as I might have tried to get Michelins (unsuccessfully) when in fact they were Pirellis I should have been referencing!

FYI OP - I just slapped on the Goodyear SuperSportR’s (255 and 315) that apparently come on the GT3 (I’m 992 911 C2S). Haven’t found much info on them, but so far so good. Hoping they’ll become my primary track tire, lasting longer than the Cup2’s.

looking at these for my 992 C2S. Do ~ 8 track days a year. Any feedback?
