Deciding not to tint the rear window of my targa, any opinions?
Hi forum experts,
So upon my targa gts arriving this fall/winter I have done some research on the tinting of the rear window.
Due to the complexity and hard labor required for this, some tint shops around my local area refused, and some who are willing I don’t think they have much experience so I am kind of nervous if I will let them do it.
There was one tintshop in NC who did the job but he said that from his experience it would take 48hours and asking 1200dollars for all windows except the windshield. Which i kind of agree seeing his photos and video on a targa.
I don’t know,,I just feel uncomfortable somebody dismantling my rear window parts to do the tint but also worried about doing any damage so kind of deciding not to do it….
If I do a tint on my targa rear window I would still want to keep the transparency of the rear window so just thinking of a light tint of 50%.
Are there any rennlist members who owns a targa and did a tint on their rear windows? Any experience and feedback would be very thankful.
I live in the DC metro area so any referrals of a decent tint shop would also be much appreciated.
Thank You.

Three Wheelin'
I was going to pass on it for the same reasons/concerns. Then the guy doing my tint (and my Radenso/LI install) asked me why I was passing on it. When I told him it was too complex, we was a bit surprised. Said he does them all the time and changed me $400 (I think) and it came out perfect.

This video is on a 991.2 Targa, but it should be practically the same on a 992 Targa. It shows you exactly what work is involved and how long it takes. It's much more than tinting a regular rear window but I wouldn't say it's a hard process. I also wouldn't worry too much about the dismantling of parts as it's really more just interior trim pieces being removed. They are not actually dismantling any of the mechanical parts that raise and lower the targa glass.

Race Car
$1,200 to tint all windows except windshield is a rip off, even with ceramic tint.
I paid $250 on my coupe for all windows except windshield with Xpel XR Black and they did a fantastic job.
I understand it's targa glass, but it just sounds like they either need to practice with your car, or they want butt sex.

my opinion is that Targas look better without tint or just with light tint. Plenty of tinted targas on here though and quality seems to always be fine so clearly its not that tricky to do.

I am on my 3rd targa, they have all been tinted. It is definitely more complex than other cars but an experienced tint professional can get it done. With each one the cost has gone up because it does take extra time.

I guess without the tint the car is gonna get too hot right? My house has a garage but not my work. It’s gonna stay outside for 8hrs each day and I work 6days a week ffs.

Did anyone use tintfx in Vienna , Va for their targa? Any opinions? They charge around 700$ which is a good price for the all the windows on a targa except windshield.
