Default 992 GTS front brake issue

Hi I’ve notice both my front rotors have these lines. Car has 9500km on it. Driven multiple times a week. I look at other similar cars and their brakes look nothing like this. I don’t track my car either. Curious on thoughts.

the outer edge of the rotor doesn’t even look like it’s being scrubbed properly by the pads and the pronounced lines in the middle of the rotors.

Wow, that's strange. If it was just one, I'd say that you picked up a pebble or piece of metal. But nearly the same on both sides? Is there a lot of debris or gravel on the roads where you drive? You could probably pull the pads, remove the debris, and reinstall without issue. It wouldn't impact braking performance, it would just be cosmetic. But if you let it go any longer, the rotors will be toast. Do they make any noise?

I guess there is a chance that the pads themselves were made with contaminants. Either way, you'll have to pull the pads to see if it's a manufacturing defect with the pads or if you are incredibly unlucky to have picked up debris on both front brakes. Are you missing any diamonds? Embedded diamonds would cause that too.

I live downtown our roads are crap but I don’t drive through rocks etc. Are the lines damaging to the rotors themselves? Let’s assume I have rocks in both brakes. If I clear the debris, would the pads “resurface” the rotor so the lines would appear less?

also what about the outer edge of rotor that doesn’t get scrubbed by the pad?

Just checked mine. Same line on the left front, a bit lighter. Right front is showing more general pad transfer. No ideas.

Drive more and brake harder.

Thanks for the comparison pics. Your outer edge looks normal. I’m gonna go for a quick drive soon and brake hard see what happens.

Just went for a quick drive. Empty highway did some hard braking (not full abs) but close. Enough that I felt is way more than needed on a street drive. Back home same thing nothing changed. The drilled holes in rotor in the outer most ring have pad deposits fully in the holes. All the other holes on the rotor have partial pad deposits.

Define hard braking.

Are the rotors scored? Can you feel a notch or a groove where the discoloration is?

empty highway 80+mph late braking into off-ramps with 90 degree turns. Go back on highway get up yo speed and hit the brakes (no one behind) down to 35mph get up to speed repeat a few times to the point I felt like the pads were not grabbing as much.

Yep . Take it to the dealer and they'll be happy to sell you new rotors and new pads so you can start all over bedding the brakes.

Yep, drive it harder. Hard braking did the trick.
