Trade 992 for Turbo GT?
I have a 992 S cabriolet and a 2022 BMW M550i and am considering trading both towards a 2024 Cayenne Turbo GT. The dealer is selling the Turbo GT for list, and it would probably be an even trade (or potentially a little cash back in my pocket). I have two young kids with busy schedules, so I don’t use the 992 as much as I would prefer, and certainly don’t explore its limits commuting to work or weekend runs to Home Depot. Consolidating down to 1 car is attractive, and would certainly be logistically “easier” on a day-to-day basis, rather than regularly trying to determine whether I need the BMW’s larger room or car seats.
On the other hand, $200K seems like an awful lot for a cayenne, even for an incredible machine like the Turbo GT. Also, it just seems “wrong” to be trading a 911 for a cayenne. Also considering waiting a year or two, keeping the 911, and trading in the m550 for something electric like the upcoming electric rs6, or Taycan sports turismo.
Has anyone made such a switch to a Turbo GT? Did you end up missing the 911?

I personally would never buy a Porsche SUV. I've driven a couple of Macans and Cayennes and have come away very disappointed. They really felt nothing like a 911 and, aside from the speed and firmer suspension, felt not much differen tthan driving my wife's Toyota Highlander. If I really needed the interior space, I'd trade the M550i for a cheaper SUV and keep the Porsche.
But if you really want to have just one do it all car, then I guess it makes sense. To me though, the Porsche SUVs have so little sports car feel that I'd rather just spend the money on like a BMW X5 for like 1/3 the cost or an X5M for half the cost of a Caynne Turbo GT. Or better yet, I'd get an Audi RS6 wagon or a BMW M3 Touring if you are in a country where you can actually get an M3 Touring.
But if you really want to have just one do it all car, then I guess it makes sense. The Turbo GT is a beast of a car, but I don’t think I could drop that kind of cash for an SUV. Definitely better value buys out there, but that doesn’t seem to be much of a concern. Practicality sometimes wins out, but I would miss not having a 911 in the stable. Good luck with your decision.

I didn't expect it to feel exactly like a 911. What I didn't expect was how similar they drove to my wife's Toyota Highlander. They feel way closer to a Highlander than a 911. They felt like garden variety SUVs even when driving them briskly. And yes, isn't that the marketing promise? That these SUVs have "Porsche DNA"? Well, I suppose if you're talking about fit and finish, interior trim, PCM and infotainment, etc., it has that Porsche DNA... just not the Porsche driving DNA.

Personally I would never trade a 911 for an suv. I’d just get a cheaper suv. Keep the 911 and purchase a 2024 cayenne s or 2023 gts. At roughly 470 hp you’ll get enough out of it going to work and Home Depot for an suv and still have the 911 for when you have time for special drives.

I would keep your current set up.
I also have a M550I that I use as a daily and use my 992 GTS Cabrio on weekends when time permits.
Figure I get 3000-4000 miles per year out of the 992 plus, here in Chicago, she gets stored for 4 months.
You will miss your 911 S and will have regrets after a short time. Been there done that.
When my lease runs out next year on the 550I I am going to get a Jeep Rubicon which I will then give to my Son 3 years later as long as he keeps his grades up and continues to demonstrate responsibility

@AlterZgo curious about what model Cayenne and Macan you drove. Neither will ever be a 911 but I often compare my Macan Turbo PP to the feel of my E39 M5 on stilts. It feels like an impressively agile sports sedan more so than an SUV or CUV. But my Macan is 450HP with AS and PASM.
@F1Fan2010 I'd keep what you have unless consolidating is a must for you. Turbo GT is pinnacle SUV but if you can't use the power, what's the point?

I think the Turbo GT is an interesting car and supposed to be a blast to drive.
Going from a Cab to an SUV makes zero sense, which makes me think you're pretty much done with the Cab experience. Sounds like it's time to move on. Turbo GT sounds like a good option.

I don’t understand this trade at all. Cayenne depreciation is no joke. It doesn’t replace either of your current cars.
Get an EV for driving the kids around. Ioniq 5 is a nice place to start. Looks cool and is fast. You can let them make a mess of the back seat and it’s no big deal. $50k-ish.
Then, trade in the BMW and Cabrio for something that’s special and more of a driving event.
I have an F150 Lightning EV for the daily and a manual transmission 991.2 Targa for the fun weekend stuff. I practice what I preach.

If you get a chance to drive a GTS or Turbo, take it. They're impressive trucks. I prefer the Macan. Smaller, lighter, PDK, more agile. Cayenne is a great hwy cruiser.

I had an E46 M3 when my kids were born and I found that I was never driving it and so did like you did, traded the fun sports car and the daily sports sedan in for a sporty SUV (SQ5 in my case). It was the right move in my case but also several levels below where you are at. The SQ5 was my daily and was sporty enough for me until I got the true sports car itch again as my kids got older (~8yo) and were in sports or didn’t require constant supervision. My 911 became my daily and my SQ5 became my kid, dog, and bike hauler.
The Turbo GT seems nuts performance wise but the looks are both polarizing and understated. The RSQ8 is a cheaper and to some, better looking option that you might want to consider as well.
