Good day all. I purchased a 992 in Dec 2021 with 2yr warranty, all has been great. Last week I felt a vibration and loss of power. Headed straight home. The next morning on starting I heard a clicking rattling noise from engine, immediately took it to Porsche distributor garage, they found fine metal bits in oil filter. Porsche Germany advised to remove sump and cylinder head cover to inspect crank shaft and valves. I did lots of reading which tells me that bearings, piston rings or something on those lines needs changing or complete engine needs changing. I currently have 6months left to go on my original warranty. Porsche have reassured me they will fix the problem and give me an extended warranty of 1yr on whole car once repairs are done. Any thoughts/ideas as to what you believe will be the outcome of the engine findings and duration of the warranty period?
My experience with engines failures is limited to jet engines, the two times that I have had one fail it was a seal on an air bearing that caused the issue. I would guess a bearing failure is likely if the debris is in the oil filter.
An analysis of the oil would give you/them indication of what the metal bits are. Good that it’s under the CPO warranty. It will be interesting to hear what bought the farm.
An extra year on top of your factory warranty sounds like a win to me. You will have a new engine and you will have an extra year of worry free driving with the added warranty.

If the particles are a Magnesium/Aluminum alloy that's probably from when the case or the heads were machined during the manufacturing process. Stuff that passes the washing procedure during manufacturing, could have been seriously buried or more likely remained attached for a long time, even after being placed in retail service. If they now simply rebuild the engine with new bearings, seals and "replace" not "flush" the Oil Cooler (very important) . . . AND they'll extend the warranty by a year . . . . IMHO, that'd be an excellent scenario.
I suspect you will be getting an entirely new engine with a warranty.
Don’t know what to think… never heard about engine failure on 992 (stock) after 10k km… it would be ridiculous …
Honestly, I have 20k km (13k Mi) and I change oil by myself every 5-6k km (I’m paranoid .. I know) and I check the oil filter sometime it seems to find very small brightly piece of metal… but they are very imperceptible … I think the filter is doing his job… but I cannot think the engine is going to esplode …
Anyway, if they find something strage in their inspection, they will replace the entire engine for sure…
i think there was another 992 that had a few thousand miles and the poor dudes car blew up on his way home from delivery. the thread is somewhere in this box. makes me worry. i daily drive mine so i am slowly seeing and hearing things change. but mine had 90% of its original warranty plus its CPO so i am covered for 6 years.
They advised me earlier today that they will be changing the whole engine and both turbos. Apparently one of the piston bearings attached to the crankshaft did a full rotation and from what I can understand dislodged. They said last week that whatever the decision from Oorsche Germany was, they would give me a full year of warranty. Now that I have been told these major replacements are needed, they should give me a new 2yr warranty. I will have to put up this fight with them.
