It’s simply an effect if the nozzle fills too fast and the air gets captured under the gas in the tube and cant ventilate building an air bible/cushion. The gas can’t get into the tank fast enough as it rides on the bubble and the nozzle detects gas and stops as it thinks it’s full. More common on boats as they have longer filling tubes between gas fill and tank.

Often it just helps to fill slower or as others said not inserting the nozzle all the way.

Interesting. This is my 9th P car since '91 and it's literally the first time this has happened.
But thanks all. I'll try the 9 o'clock and slow fill next time.

The fuel tank vapour recovery system uses a charcoal canister to trap gases. If this becomes clogged pressure will build within the tank as you fill, fooling the pump into assuming the gas has reached the nozzle. This a known problem with P cars. You could try replacing the charcoal canister

This just started happening to me, the sensor isnt reading the gas tank accurately. It says 48 miles left, I put 5 gallons in, and it still says 48 miles. One time it corrected itself about 5 minutes later. Currently it hasnt and is still sitting on the pre-fill level.

I've had the pump shut down early if I'm at the highest transfer rate, I think as the tank fills to cutoff might be engaged early in this circumstance. I've found that using the first detent, as opposed to the second, on the nozzle handle slows the rate and insures I get a full tank. My experience is with the ER tank.

Same thing on my 2021

Refilled for the first time on my MY23 with the extended tank and it stopped at 3/4 full, didn't realize it until I restarted the car. It never happened with my MY20 standard tank.

Anyways, I'll have to try the 9 o'clock angle next time.

I had this problem when I first purchased three years ago and someone recommended when pumping do not pull the handle lever all the way but fill it slowly by pulling lever with about half as much pressure. Never had an issue after that.

Thanks, everyone. The 9 o’clock approach seems to have solved this issue on my 2024 992.

So the nozzle tip is at 9:00, so handle at 3:00, correct?

I actually did the inverse. I'm not sure it matters, as the point seems to be slowing the flow a little bit.
