GTS 7MT - Cost Advantage?

But auto sports cars are a yawn fest. I’ve had a PDK turbo s and every time I drove it I felt like there was something missing, I wanted a clutch pedal and a manual gearbox to play with.
My Targa GTS is MT. I’ll happily give up a few silly tenths to 60 (yawn) for the increased fun and engagement of the MT. Auto transmissions are for big GT cars, not sports cars.

The non TT 911's are not fast relative to other sports cars but IMO fast enough to enjoy on the street. PDK is wonderful but so is a manual, it depends on the experience you want. No wrong answer.

great point however it remains super fun and fast in the twisties and pdk can be a great and modern transmission in many conditions...

I don't know how 2.8 seconds to 60 and 10.9 seconds and trapping 128 mph in the 1/4 mile for a 992 GTS isn't fast (Car and Driver). Seems to me that will compare well to many very fast cars. Sure there are faster cars but to say a non-TT 911's "are not fast relative to other sports cars" is just not factual in my opinion. It may not be the fastest car you can get but it isn't "slow" on a relative basis.

One of my GT3's was a pdk and so was my 991.1 so yes I know firsthand it is a great transmission but this time I elected for a manual (Targa GTS4). These aren't race cars so may as well enjoy the drive and the Porsche manual is sublime.

I have a Kia Forte rental this weekend.
A bicycle seems fast to me right now.

Exactly this. Once you’ve floored the PDK a few times in sport plus and you realize you’re never going to get any faster in that car it sort of gets old very quickly. At least I’m the manual there is the ever present challenge of achieving the perfect gear changes and yes, the throw on the 7MT is perfect and the clutch and gearbox are truly an engineering masterpiece.

Using this logic, why did you get a heavier, AWD targa with a higher centre of gravity and softer suspension? This kind of performative zealotry about the purity of the driving experience is so silly. Porsche lets people option exactly the car they want. Don’t get so upset about the cars other people buy, since no one is forcing you to drive or own them.

Either vehicle will cruise at or above the speed limit in any state, even Montana.
Frankly, I think I have not yet hit redline in our S only because there's no place to really do so and not get busted.
We bought the S for the reason I wanted a manual transmission, for driver engagement, not speed.
We're taking the car to Canada again next week and I'm going to have to live with a 100kph/62mph speed limit, heavily enforced.

The 911 used to be a fast car before EVs came along, but guess what, now it isn’t.
My point is that sacrificing all the extra fun and driver engagement of a manual for 1/2 sec extra speed to 60 makes no sense when grannies are nipping to the shops in EVs which are quicker anyway.
I can understand people buying the PDK for a daily driver in city traffic that’s also good for cruising at weekends but not purely because it’s faster. Sacrificing all that extra fun for a paper statistic that you won’t even notice on the road makes no sense whatsoever in my opinion.

Thanks. I for sure obviously meant that bicycles are literally faster than a Kia, but I now see the error of my ways.

I don't understand the venom some have for the PDK. It's an amazing transmission and PDK 911s are incredible cars that can certainly still provide significant driver involvement while being a perfect daily driver in traffic.
And, this is coming from someone that is specifically purchasing the 992 given the availability of the manual gearbox after having a PDK 997 TT-S and a DSG R8 V10+.
People have different reasons for picking PDK vs MT, and they're all valid IMO based on one's expectations and desires. I hope all in this thread enjoy the heck out of their PDK or MT 992.
