Default 992 GTS Sunroof Config help? - First Porsche

I feel so lucky - walked in and got an allocation for a carerra for GTS, my dream car! I'm going for what I'm thinking of as a "Heritage" build. Flat black, tan/black interior, will powder coat the GTS rims to be silver moving away from the blacked out look. Just one question, which sunroof should i get?

1. Glass roof - seems like clearly the best option from an ergonomic and comfort perspective. is obviously the least "heritage" of the options and i feel kind of messes with the lines of the car? Or is it really not something i should care about with black?
2. Metal roof - definitely heritage, but not exactly the most useful device? Also does this actually mess with the lines and cleanness of the car or is it just the perfect middle ground
3. no sunroof- simple and clean but i can't let the sun in lol

Heritage look? No Sunroof. But you're likely to get lots of opinions on all 3 routes. For me the lines of most consoles are pretty skewed with the glass, although with black likely not so much.

Go with the carbon fibre, I think they look awesome and sporty. It’s a GTS after all.

I am taking possession of a 992T tomorrow with a glass sunroof. I hate sunroofs but I do like the ability to open the inner shade and let light in to brighten up the cabin. Besides, with a GT Silver car, it looks waaaay cool.

Glass. For me I went with the most practical and gives you the most options (open, closed, closed with shade). The glass allows a lot of light into what is quite a black interior (unless you went with another color leather of course). My car is GT Silver so I like the black look of the roof. It is also best for resale if that is important to you (not to me).

1000's of views on this, all correct. Not trying to be smart, that's how it's been for the 15 years I've been driving 911's.

I wanted more natural light in my black interior (without going Targa or Cabrio) so glass roof was my pick.

Echoing some of the other sentiments above, but I optioned my glass roof primarily for light and an open feel. I’ll likely open the roof very little during my stewardship.

There's nothing heritage about a 992 other than the rear engine 2+2 design, and an MT if you option one. So if you like the glass sunroof, go for it. Metal is the right choice if you don't like the way the glass one looks, or you just want it either fully open/closed and don't care about transparency.

I went with a sunroof and I’d do it again. I love driving non-highway roads with the roof open to let nature in.

That said, I understand why people go hard top. 911s are low and you see the top unless you’re 4 ft tall, and it does look better with a slick or CF top.

I'm a slick top guy, but as others said, they all look good and reasons for all...BUT...on the heritage I'd definitely go classic and no sunroof.

I have a 23 GTS in GR, did extended leather and Race-Tex interior with no other flourishes to keep it simple black. Glass roof makes it feel much more "open" in the daytime and I actually like how the glass roof breaks up the red and complements the black accents (I also did black rear fender guards for the "heritage" appeal). I also have two small kids, so the glass roof really opens the car up for them when they're squeezed into the back seats.

No sunroof for me on my incoming GT silver. Do not care for the black look of the glass roof breaking up the lines and for me idea of wanting more open feel in the cabin by having a sunroof is the total opposite. The 992 generation of 911 has grown so much in size, I want anything but making the cabin feel more open and bigger (prefer a cozy feel). Just me though. No right or wrong at all and I see why the sunroof options are of importance to many.

While not prevalent, there have been sunroofs dating all the way back to the early 356’s. That’s pretty heritage to me.

I'd go with glass roof... But regardless of which you choose, make sure you select the $60 preparation for roof transport option as it's a very cheap option and one that you may find useful and may even help w/ resale. In the past, people who got a sunroof had this option automatically. Now, you must select the $60 option regardless of whether you get a sunroof or not if you want to install a roof rack on the car.
