Default yes prices are down...

After 9 months following the market and watching 992 prices drop as the 2020 lease returns came in and interest rates bumped (classic supply/demand reversion) ..... earlier this week I purchased a well-optioned CPO 2020 base cab from a SoCal dealer for 90% of it's original MSRP. Probably 80% MSRP of an equivalent 2023 build.

In service date was Feb 2020... just pre-covid.

Some dealers are still trying to get 100% of the MSRP for a 2020... and those are sitting.

Congrats! Can you share your remote purchase experience (or you flew/drove there)?

You might catch a car before it gets traded in. The Marketplace here on Rennlist is the best place to post a WTB ad, but you have to be a paid member to use that classified section.

Here is just one 992 ad that is on the PCA Mart as an example
Appreciate the sharing!

Just sayin, I wouldn’t balk at getting 90% of the original msrp of my C2. Sure, it’s not msrp like maybe some were getting not too long ago, but I enjoy every mile I drive and it’s not like I bought a depreciating asset 3 years ago thinking I would somehow be ahead today.

Crazy to think my base Carrera was $97,400 in 2020 and now it’s $17k more just 3 years later. These cars are getting out of hand, but hey, we all still pay to play.

Not that unbelievable given how hard Targa allocations are to come by. Porsche doesn’t make a lot of Targas.

Agree on detansinn's comment and would also add that BaT tends to get a premium on $150k+ cars. Might not be every time, but more times than not.

It was super easy...

Agreed on a price over the phone last Friday
"Secured" the car for a credit card deposit that they never ran... with agreement that I could test drive and walk away for any reason (btw, that was their offer)
Flew out of SJC Monday morning. No pressure to come on Mon, that was my best choice.
Dealer provided Lyft ride from airport
11am - Arrived
Test drove
Signed off everything in 20 mins - Finance Mgr was A+ organized and efficient
Sat with Porsche "genius" to set up car profile, review every nook and cranny of the PCM, etc
1:30 - Drove off - enjoying (if you can, with all the trucks that tend to clump together) the fast straight I-5 and then the curves of Rte 152 into Gilroy!

I had a top notch experience w/ this particular salesman / dealer .... I'm not sure calling out specifics in a public forum is in good taste, so DM me with any other questions.

PS I'll soon have an 01 Red 996 tip cab 63Kmiles for sale...(pic to left) that I've been loving for 20 years. Wonder if I should change my username to GreyCab .... but then again I'm thinking of wrapping it blue.

Big difference from a 996 to a 992, yes? You must have felt you were in a spaceship! Bet you didn't miss those built-in cassette holders on the ride home in the new hooptie.

It is funny everyone complains about the recent price hike (I complained too). But whether you got a 911 before the increase or not, when we inevitably sell to buy the next "new" 911, we will all face the full "new" sticker shock. Prices will always increase. Deals are only relative to the timeframe. Even if we buy a 911 at today's price, in 6 years we would look back and it would be considered a deal.

Or, you could be (in 6 years) like the 2008 Recession where there were Porsche stacked on the lots at fire sale prices, I got one then, but you have to be bold enough to grab one when your stock market portfolio is tanking and your property values are losing 20%, and your business is flat or less. Not many people are.

That's true but if you held that car for 5 years and then sold, you'd still have taken a bath on it. My 2009 C2S lost nearly 50% over the 5 years I owned it, even with a 25% discount off the showroom floor. It's worth more now than when I sold it in 2014.

After much more research - it looks like cars are sitting. Over the last year every time I find a car within a few weeks it's gone. Dealers could have cared less when I made an inquiry. Now all the cars I'm interested in and make inquiries on I'm getting multiple call backs. Even weeks later to see if Im still in the market. Going to see a 992 tomorrow. Hopefully the green is more greenish in real life.

And resale doesn't bother me. We tend to keep cars until they are worthless. The 8 series depreciation seems to be about normal for old times. Nothing like then craziness I see with 911's.

Saw a car salesman TikTok saying how March was a brutal month. Things are definitely slowing down with the 8% rates.
