If one were on the fence right now on a used 911, I'd move quickly before the news spreads, =especially if you're buying from a private seller. If buying from a Porsche dealer, they already know, and will probably be raising prices or be firm.

if you are worried about price drop, then don't consider M8 as traditionally they depreciate like crazy irrespective of your entry point .Actually BMW dropped their price couple of years ago by like 15k as they were not selling
911 traditionally dropped to some extent depending on economy etc , but in general hold better value than M cars
I will keep looking , my dealer had couple of 2021 992 selling below sticker recently so I an not sure where are you seeing 10-20% over MSRP on these

A quick search for the first 992 available at my local dealer shows an asking price of 11% over MSRP for a 2020 production '21 Targa with 4k miles.

Just went on the configurator. The GTS I took receipt of one year ago tomorrow is $13,444 ($169,264 vs. $155,820) more and without ventilated seats which I did not find on the configurator. So $14,284 more if ventilated seats were now offered. Also had to change paint and interior colors since AG and Iceland are not available. Glad I bought when I did!

As a current BMW owner, and longtime fan…I think interest in BMW’s soured a but from current and prospective buyers when they introduced that hideous front grill on many of their models. I’d start with getting rid of whomever idea it was that the grill looked good…

I’m also a AG and Iceland owner…great combo, IMO.

Don't look at what we would get for our Polestars now though, anything we've made up on our 992's has been lost on that market . Not that I'm too worried, when I bought the 992 I figured $30k loss over 2 years, now it's nearly 3 years and I'd probably get back what I paid or close to it. Swings and roundabouts, like most things in life.

Tesla cars had done well on the depreciation curve. But that is no loner the case…for several reasons, including, no longer the only EV game in town and Musk’s price drop on new cars.

Just ran numbers on Kelly Blue Book, for my P2. Including the Federal tax discount I got, my KBB expected depreciation rate after 5 years is 43%. Don’t care about 1st year, or even 3 year depreciate rates, as that’s the steepest part of the curve. It was about 10% higher if I back out the tax break. But I expect the entire EV market to be vulnerable due the infusion of 20+ EV models entering the market right now…and, as EV’s get older, range on the batteries begin to drop a bit. ICE vehicles with the lowest 5 year depreciation rate are around 27-38% (mainly Toyota’s). ICE cars with the highest depreciation rates of around 70% include the BMW 7 series and Mercedes S-class (both at over 70%).

That said, and as i experienced first hand with my Prius…as gas prices go up, I expect depreciation rates for EV’s to slow. I always saw an increase sales spike in used Prii when gas climbed by more than $0.50/gallon. Just a knee jerk reaction from consumers.

But regardless of what the depreciate rates end up being, does not impact me at all, as I always keep my cars at least 10 years, and after that, no matter what car it is, their value has bottomed out.

BMW dropped the price on 8 Series about a month after I pre-traded mine on my GTS order. Remember the oh don’t pre-trade rhetoric on here? Ha!!! I actually felt a little bad for the dealer since they gave me pre pricing drop value on my 8. I had a 5 on order as a DD before I bought the Porsche but walked away from that after BMW couldn’t deliver on several options I wanted. I’ve moved on from BMW as anything special in a car since to me, they are no longer the ultimate driving machine. More like the ultimate highway floater these days. The pay to play reoccurring options fee they have rolled out in some markets is another nail in the coffin too!

Ordered my 2021 C2S in August of 2020. Window Sticker was $141,200. I paid $132,728. This was just before the market went nuts. Prompted by other equally curious minds on this thread, I went on the Porsche site and built my car again, exactly as it was and is now, $156,710 is the sticker on a 2023 built exactly as my 2021. Unbelievable! Then again, we bought a KIA EV6 (all electric) a bit over a year ago. Just sold it and bought a BMW i4 in the last few weeks, also all electric, but IMHO much nicer all around. Anyhow, between what we paid for the KIA (MSRP), the tax credits and what we sold it for, we actually made a profit of over $500.

Timing is everything. The EV6 no longer qualifies for the $7,500 federal tax credit. It’s unfortunate that Congress changed the law, in late 2022, to eliminate many foreign EV’s. Like you, I just snuck in under the wire and qualified. As is, only two hybrid models from BMW qualify for the federal tax incentive…

The best way is to put out a WTB posting here and maybe www.6speedonline.com as well as cruise the PCA Classified section. Private sellers are - well - generally lazy! If you put out a post on what you want to buy and give yourself some room on model years, colors, mileage, etc, you may be surprised by what you get back. You might catch a car before it gets traded in. The Marketplace here on Rennlist is the best place to post a WTB ad, but you have to be a paid member to use that classified section.

Here is just one 992 ad that is on the PCA Mart as an example

I find it funny that we all worry about the exit strategy with these cars...myself included. I don't plan on selling this car (well I don't even have it yet)...at least not for a very long time... but damn if I don't read every thread about resale values or holding values on 992's. Did the same thing with my 991. But that I DID sell because I was able to sell it for what I paid for it 5 years prior and it wasn't my ideal 911 (black...I hate black cars). HAHAHA
