Default Partial PPF: Can You See Difference?

I'm considering full PPF for my Metallic Jet Black 992. I realize it's not necessary for the back half of the car for the most part, but my big concern is if there will be a visible difference between the covered and uncovered areas... particularly where they are close together. Or is this a non-issue?

Call your local reputable place and ask for the track package.

It will be fine. The adhesive is what yellows with PPF over time and the adhesives have improved dramatically in recent years to retard the yellowing. For a car parked indoors, it’s really a non issue. Parked outdoors for months at a time? More likely to accelerate that process.

Do you really want to cover 1/2 of a body panel? (like on the roof). The line will be visible for sure.

Well, mine is a Targa 4 GTS, so none of the roof would be covered... but I get your point on the "hips"... I'll have to ask about that.

Just did a full PPF and ceramic on my JBM car. Highly recommend doing the whole car for swirl protection and ease of cleaning. Definitely worth the xtra money.

The lines will be visible and wax will get in there if you are not careful. A bad move in my opinion.

It looks terrible because dust and dirt build up along the edge of the film.

Had a similar PPF treatment on my 20C4S, it’s ok, the funniest thing was people telling about the awful scratches on my car when it was dirty, aka the PPF lines. Went with full PPF on the 22 GTS, I had to, due to the gloss black option but I think it is a better road to go.

My installer said doing a Targa was easier than a hardtop because of that. Mine installed a matte piece on the black roll hoop, precut around the targa script at the sides - wasn’t expecting that but fine with it. If they wrap the back bumper, you’ll also need to decide what to do with the model badging — I opted to delete it, and can always add it back on later if I want but don’t think I’d put anything more than “GTS” back there.

I have no problem with my front half PPF. I live in a rock chip intensive world and the hits (even with ppf) are noticeable. I had a great installer and the seams are not noticeable to all but the ****-retentive. The coverage you show should be solid. I do wish I had added to the hip protection and rocker panels, which you've spec'd. I don't think you need the rear bits. opinions vary.

With a jet black car, PPF the whole thing. Won't you go crazy seeing swirls in the doors and hips where there isn't PPF?

My guards red 992 has partial PPF and it's totally fine. Can hardly tell the difference btw PPF and non-PPF'd panels and even partial PPF'd portions like the A pillars.

With that said, I agree w/ zachr. If my car was black or any dark color like gentian blue, I'd PPF the whole car. Black is a total PITA and well worth the effort and cost to PPF the entire car with a high quality self healing PPF.

I have full PPF on my JBM targa - did the full thing more to make it clean easier than I did the back, etc. for protection. Cuts cleaning time down by 1/2 and with a black car (that is a 2nd job).
