I was thinking the same thing... I'd bet it could be coded out with PIWIS.

Kind of. Except you still have the extra weight and the potential issues with the system, battery and alignment.

The 992 is nanny’d enough without me paying for more “driver assistance”.

This translates to even better stability in high-speed cornering."

Does anyone anyone know if these speeds apply to 992 c2?

I've done a few fast "lane changes" at speeds in excess of 100mph and the RWS on my 992 GTS is noticeable as there is almost zero "tail wagging the dog" effect. The car just moves into the next lane at the same time front/rear. It's an impressive stability enhancement IMHO. Plus, low speed maneuvering, it feels like a little Fiat or Smart car when U-turning.

Of all the reasons for and against RAS, the most apparent was this graph (see page 10 of pdf) comparing the steering ratio between 991/992 with/without RAS.
This was also mentioned in another rennlist thread.

The precision of the graphs may be questionable, yet it looks as though:
  • 991 with RAS is 10% more direct than 991 without
  • 992 is about the same as 991 with RAS
  • 992 with RAS is 6% more direct than 992 without (14.1:1 vs 15.0:1), and becomes about the same as it approaches 180 degrees
Are the steering ratios irrespective of speed or activation of RAS? Can a non-RAS car be coded with the RAS steering ratio? I also read RAS activates below 31 mph and above 50 mph. Between these speeds, would the rear wheels essentially point forward?

Do not have the source anymore, but read somewhere that between 31 and 50, the computer decides which way to turn the rears depending on various conditions. That also may be an update because the original RAS I believe had it do nothing between 31 and 50 (i.e. point forward).
