So Im a new Porsche owner after stumbling onto a practically new 992 GT3 (June 21 production) and couldnt be any happier. I finally get what Porsche owners love about those cars, but thats not what Im here to talk about. After driving my friends' 22 992 GTS today, I noticed what a difference his PCM was and am fixated on updating mine. After some research, I see that I have PCM 5 (Hardware H058) and what I need is PCM 6. One option for an upgrade is downloading the third party software, which would result in a full screen / large icons / etc, but Im debating if I want to go down that route or upgrading the whole hardware to get the full benefit of PCM 6.
A quick search, and I couldn't seem to find where to buy the hardware if I were to go down the full PCM 6 route. Appreciate some help with the model number for the PCM 6 hardware and where to best buy the parts (apart from the local dealer).
1.you need to get a software hacked PCM6 unit with no component protection on it and also all features are enabled.
2. You cant pass the factory warranty
3. You may also need to change the way how to route the GPS and internet connection since the wiring is completely different. PCM6 is using seperate module for GPS and internet
4. You will lose the Porsche connect feature on PCM side l, such as online services at PCM side.
5. If you have amp for sound system, it may need to check the wiring as well, since it has changed as well.
It is not a plug and play thing to do.
There are many implications if you go down that route. It can be done , but don’t know if anyone wants to do that since PCM6 didn’t actually add any significant features.

Super helpful - thanks. I was under the impression the change is a relatively straight forward plug and play. If not the case, and more importantly doing so voids the warranty, not something worth pursuing. I may go down the 3rd party software hack.
As a Tesla fan and of their software I can tell that Porsche is so incredibly weak in this regard. As someone mentioned I think its worth ordering a new car and selling the one you got if its important to you. One of my pet peeves on my 2021 992 is how bad the speedometer looks versus the newer version.

That just reflects Tesla vs. Porsche priorities. Tesla is incredibly weak when it comes to driving dynamics and enjoyment (which is different to fast). Horses for courses.
I'm guessing you would be better off getting a car with the PCM capabilities you want. Not trying to be snide.
Quite unfortunate but given how hard it is to get one of these cars, particularly in the specs one would like, I'll focus on the more critical things, which is what an amazing machine Porsche has built.

Hey
this is a little off topic but I have a 911 GTS delivery end of this month in Dubai - I was wondering if I could get some advise from you before picking it up as I see you are in Dubai as well. Thanks
1. 100% not plug and play
2. 100% void warranty
3. PCM5 made by Alpine and with QNX6.6
4. PCM6 made by APTIV and with Linux
The reason way Porsche did PCM6 is actually try to cut down the production cost. If you open them up compare them side by side you will see the design and quality on PCM6 is no where near to the PCM5
many components were removed and it will be using other control module to communicate such as GPS signal, that is why it is not plug and play
also you will lose some of Porsche connect feature in PCM due to that head unit’s anti-theft component production is removed by software hack if you do the retrofit .
suggest don’t go that path, at least during warranty period.

The drive that gave me a glimpse of PCM6 was my friends' 992 GTS... Spectacular car all around, so congrats in advance for such a great car. Happy to connect to discuss your pickup.
