Error Code Scanner

Error Code Scanner
I have been told that owners of newer Macans can purchase a relatively inexpensive device to read the error codes and in some cases, clear them. The goal being to see if they come back and possibly save or delay a trip to the dealership. I'm not trying to mod the vehicle just clear the "idiot light". There are several available on Amazon. Any recommendations?

You can get a generic OBD II scanner that will read generic codes and clear many but the capability is low.
I got an Autel Maxicom 808BTMS which will read Porsche specific codes. It will also reset the maintenance reminder but does not have full bi-directional control with Porsche.
It does have actually amazing bi-directional abilities with my wife's Lexus.
I'm hoping a future software upgrade will give the same to Porsche.
It was about $600.

If all you want t do is to read and clear any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTSC), don't spend less than $5 or more than $10 and you'll be just fine.

Cheapest OBD II on Amazon is about $20.
Generally the cheapest ones won't do things like read ABS codes or reset an airbag or steering angle sensor light.
For $100 you can get one that will do a lot more.
Mine will read all the codes including TPMS sensors.
I figure if I can avoid one non-warranty trip to the dealer it's paid for itself.
