Lock date approaching: Opinion on final build
#16
Thanks folks. One thing about Agate is it looked quite good in person when I saw it recently. I’ve also seen some really dull looking pictures online (the ones above are some good ones)….any thoughts on how it ages / fades away against sun exposure over time, relative to A1 black (which I also realize is tough to keep pristine)?
Here you can see the slight green tint:

I’d go Agate with carrera classics, I’d also add some brightwork like the silver surround, and tailpipes but that’s personal preference.
this is a well thought out and restrained spec. You may want to consider the roof rack prep, lane change assist, and if you ever may use one the prep for the dash cam which looks like it would same some money in the long run.

My 2 cents, Agate w/silver (bright) wheels. IMO black wheels only look good on a checker cab and from >5 feet away you cant't tell if they are something other than a $25 pressed steel wheel with no hubcap. +1 on camera prewire. Sure I’m going to be in the minority on this one but if budget is an issue, I'd dump sport chrono and use that $$ towards full leather interior. Sport chrono seems nice but absent track use, seems like the features would see little use.

Agate with the silver trim and Carrera classic wheels for the win. BTW slate grey/chalk goes very well with the combo.

Someone else may have mentioned this but just. A gentle reminder that your lock date is an estimate. Mine locked much earlier than the date given but my SA gave me a warning that it could happen.

Forged wheels are stronger, lighter, and more expensive. To my understanding, giving the mechanics of how a car rides the impact of wheel weight differences is amplified a few fold over a similar weight difference in the car frame or contents. The comparative weights of the OEM wheel options are pretty hard to find though and there seems to be controversy over how much it matters particularly for non-track use.

A forged wheel is much stronger, generally lighter, and yes of generally higher quality.
Any good wheels will be forged, and in the aftermarket they are much more costly.
In the real world you would probably not notice the difference, but for me this was an easy decision.

Unsprung weight reduction aids in handling in addition to quicker acceleration and shorter stopping distances.

It should also be pointed out that the lighter wheels also result lower rolling resistance than other wheels, which would also make the car faster overall. The general rule of thumb in racing is that you need to have the lowest weight rolling resistance before anything else that is static on your car. So, as an example, you're 10x better off going to a lighter wheel than you would be than choosing to reduce weight with a carbon-fiber roof or hood.

Color is personal preference but I think the 911 wears agate better than black.
