911 Dakar in person

Longer video of the same car.
This makes me more and more convinced that WHITE is the proper color choice for me if PTS will not be available for my built slot ... it does not attract too much attention but the car stands out in a sea of black and gray 911s and the black details stand out in a cool and kind of racing way.
I really dig the white rims, as they give a sort of '70s and '80s vibe to the car.

I was at the NYC Auto Show too this year, that wasn't Porsche's display, all the German car makers pulled out ... again, because someone ripped apart the interior of some BMW's a few years ago with a knife or something at the auto show so all of the car company's pulled out in "solidarity". At least that's what a guy with the local Audi dealership that was showing their 4 cars at the show told us. Those 4 Porsches weren't from Porsche Car Company but a local Porsche dealership, that's all. Sad, very sad.

My dealer (in the US) still expects that they'll receive 2024 cars, and was told by their regional rep that 2024 allocations would be released in September along with GT cars. They did not receive any 2023 allocation outside of their guaranteed 918 VIP builds.

hmm, I have been offered October and November builds so you must mean calendar year 2024 builds.

Well, I guess reworded, they are not receiving any additional MY23 allocations. They are expecting in September to be allocated 2024 builds (I think they get notified on GT allocations twice a year).
However, not sure that a October or November build wouldn't still be a MY23 for the Dakar. For instance my 991.2 GT3 Touring was built in December 2018 and is still a MY18.
My dealer is mid-sized, so it wouldn't be surprising if larger dealers received MY23 cars in excess of their 918 customer allocations.

Cool car. But so tired of Porsche and these collector limited run cars. It’s so dumb. Make stuff that only perpetuates and amplifies the bubble wrap culture. Anyone who wants one should be able to buy one as simple placing an order.

Don't blame Porsche...blame the idiots that buy into the 'collector' hype and promise of driving Porsches for free. 2,500 is not a "limited run" in the Porsche or collector car world. Porsche built fewer 996.2, 997.1, and 997.2 GT3 models, and they were never considered collector cars during development or production; they built as many as they thought would sell. And unless preserved in a bubble, they haven't retained MSRP when adjusted for inflation. If Porsche had simply launched the Dakar as a regular model without mentioning production numbers, they might not have had interest in 2,500 units. But many 'collectors' are fooled by a dash plaque.
