They’re going to fix it for free. You’ll be fine. Don’t worry

True Performance Plain City Ohio is whom you want to use to repair the car correctly. When you get there you'll see why. It will get done correctly and no carfax nonsense. If you use Rife's get the correct location. Rife's is flooded with business for good reason. Westerville location just did a repair for me on my jeep, the pole at the local Porsche dealer jumped out in front me!!

BTW that's really a design flaw, the car shouldn't melt because it's running and parked. Strange!! It's either really cheap thin plastic or a serious design flaw with heat.Maybe both!! Look at the heat warp damage and how it it expressed into the plastic. I'd call Porsche and have a long phone call about this issue.

One thing I would do is have them paint the bumper off of the car. The reason why is otherwise they are going to spray clearcoat on the rear fenders to blend it. That will cause uneven paint thickness .That somebody could pick up with a paint gauge and think the car was in an accident. Carl

This whole carfax issue is nonsense. This is no different that if I take my car to the body shop and ask them to put a new bumper on (OEM of aftermarket), does not matter. I'll pay cash (Check/what ever), thanks. This is what the dealer will do and this has nothing to do with carfax. The dealer could take the car over to the body shop with the bumper off already. The shop is not going to report to carfax they put a bumper on a car that was missing one. If they run it thru insurance, then that is a different matter, but they won't.

OP says the dealer’s exhaust extractor was blocking the exhaust , maybe they didn’t have it running or it wasn’t straight. I don’t think it’s Porsche’s issue, otherwise this would be common.

I think you missed that the OP's car was hooked up to an exhaust extractor to vent out while the vehicle was running. There are lots of different kind of tubes that can go on the back of a pipe to vent out the atmosphere, one with metal would probably fit close or touch the edge of the bumper cover and be made of aluminum for durability - it transferred the heat to melt the ABS plastic. I am curious who you are going to call at Porsche Corporate to have that long conversation about design of their bumper, however. Do you mean Porsche North America Customer Service where the communication specialist making $ 32,000 a year is paid to answer your call and say "Yes sir, sorry sir, I understand your feelings, sir, I will pass that onto corporate, sir" over and over until you have fully vented? That person?

The dealer is not going to correct his bumper cover, they are going to order a new one through Parts and paint it off the car. No professional would repaint it on the vehicle anyways, they come off in 15 minutes and are painted on a stand inside the booth.

The dealer will probably file a claim with their insurance to cover the damages.

What was the end result here? How did the dealer handle the situation? Did it end up showing up on your CarFax report?

This exact same thing just happened to my 992 C4S... and now in discussions with the dealer. My bumper was also PPFd so they'll need to do that. Appreciate any insight.

Not true, if the dealer's ROs (Repair Orders) are automatically reported and it will show up it is how many cars show the service history like oil changes etc. Not every dealer participates with CarFax though and for those that do not, it won't matter.

Even if dealership reports it, this is not a big deal since it wouldn’t show up like a car accident under the CarFax category. Dealerships do a lot of work like this especially under warranty. Typically CarFax accidents are taken from Insurance companies or local municipal which is not involved here.

Just have to em fix it. Nobody cares about bumper repaints due to chips, scrapes etc. It’s collision work that scares people off. If it were to show up on a carfax just retain the pics and explanation of what happens to ensure potential buyers know there was no collision.
