Ya, It's cool someone is taking this on. It's really amazing how far technology has come to facilitate this type of activity. 3d scanners, printers etc. make this type of "hobby" extremely accessible.
A little update. Currently printing the latest version with some tweaks to the paddle inboard position (I felt it was too far outwards) and angled the top portion more as it was a little tilted downwards.
We use resin DLP printers in my work so print time plus curing takes around 2.5-3hrs.
Then it's mount on the spare wheel I have to confirm fitment.
I'm so close to where I want to be. Once I'm happy I then need to find a CNC company to mill the pieces in aluminium and powder coat.

The next hurdle is going to be getting a decent company to mill
these and anodise them.
With regards the comment earlier regarding the JCR paddles, people really do need to understand the costs involved.
Notwithstanding the cost of having the OEM paddles properly scanned and files converted to STEP format for editing, then the cost of a decent CAD designer to manipulate said scans, the factor in the cost of two blocks of aero grade aluminium even before the cost of milling and anodising!
I’m not comfortable using a Chinese company to mill as I really want a special, well made piece at the end of this.

Further to Siberian’s question regarding how to swap
these over, the hardest bit will be removing the wheel.
Once off, undo the torx screw holding the assembly at the rear (visible on the image above) then there is a metal “shaft” that needs pulling out with some nose tipped pliers which allows the switching mechanism to lift out and be placed into the new part.
If I get this finalised I will of course do a full write up with comprehensive images.
Is the main steering nut reusable? Reason I ask is that when I installed a heated steering wheel on the Touareg it does say it can be re-used 3 times I think, so to remind me I punched a dot on it to mark one re-use.
As long as the steering wheel doesn't need to be removed you don't have to mark the teeth for alignment as the one thing that will drive you mad is if the steering is but one tooth off.

They're not torque to yield so no reason they couldn't or shouldn't, BUT there are limits. Don't remember correctly if it's 3 or 5 now that I think of it, but there definitely was a limit to number of re-uses.
Lastly, I don't believe the torque setting was abnormally high either, I could look it up if needed unless you have it handy for the 992 as mine would be for a Treg.

You mentioned special...So if you're willing to listen to some input: Can you manipulate the tactile feedback, the click? Maybe make it a little more crisp. Customized colors for the + and -.

If not, carry on.
Custom colours etc may be possible; that of course will change the price per unit if I'm having lots of individual items made rather than mass ordering. I'll know more over the next few weeks as I get prices together.
The tactile feedback is purely down to the OEM switch assembly that is fixed to the paddle before connection to the wheel. That has a rubber insert that does two jobs; it pushes down onto a PCB switch pad and also acts as the return mechanism for the paddle. The only way to change that switching behaviour would be by redesigning that rubber insert. That is beyond my capabilities I'm afraid.
