How are targa allocations looking now?

This is impossible to answer. If the economy softens dramatically, it's certainly possible but no one has any real idea when that'll be, it also may never happen. Right now, the best you're getting is dealers promising a 2-3 year wait at MSRP, or a significant ADM to have a car in the near future.

Even before the whole porsche market went hay wire, 10 percent was never a thing, 6-8 percent and a good purchase history was a thing. If you never built a relationship with them, your starting from scratch and the adm they make off you goes to subside a long time customers MSRP sale.

Not on the Targa. Very low production and while there is always someone out there that will yell "I got 10% off!", they are so few and far between that you have a better chance of seeing a spotted snow leopard. Do note that most dealers have a 1-3 year waiting list for a 992, so discounting is not in the books these days on any of them - especially the targa.

Go into a Porsche dealer with a desirable trade and you will jump up the list much quicker. This is not the deli counter list where they go in order.

Hi,
I was wondering how targa allocations are looking and if someone knows a dealer out there willing to order one at a discount off msrp. I'm not in a rush and would like to order one if I can get maybe 10 percent off. Before I get flamed I should clarify I'm willing to wait until those numbers are possible as they were in the past, or order now if someone knows a dealer out there that might do this. Thanks!

I've been dealing with the same dealership for over 30 years and spent well over a million in that time, when I went to order my Targa they, not joking, laughed at me when I brought up my usual discount..
A year plus later and it's on it's way to production, delivery late November, paying MSRP.

I think their mark up is not 10%. More like 8% ?
Isn't it ? And if is not , it is not more than 10%.
So you want a car at dealer cost ?

More complicated than that. There are definitely cases of cars going for 8-10% under MSRP, during COVID for example. I got 8% off my 2021 992 S.

As a data point I have 3 dealers now where I'm "on the list" and they know I'll take a Targa allocation the second they have one available at MSRP. I've been in this position for 15 months now and don't expect an allocation any time soon. I've moved on and ordered a different car but if by any chance one pops up I'll probably still take it.

You've already been flamed enough here so I won't add on but I do want to attempt to provide a constructive response related to the Targa market.
My Targa 4S is arriving in 10 days. I was told it would be at least one year and it will be 11 months from deposit to delivery. I am one of the lucky ones to actually receive a delivery in this time period (local dealer told me it comes down to three things: (1) will they receive service revenue from the car, (2) are you using Porsche financing, and (3) are you trading something in).
What I learned at this time last year: In a typical year, less than 5% of Porsche's new builds are Targa's. With supply chain issues and to meet demand of other high volume cars, they have decreased this production in 2021 and 2022 (probably 2023 too).
Thus the number of Targa allocations will be significantly less and harder to get your hands on than other 911s.
I was also told through a collector that not only are all 911s going for over MSRP, there are Targa's being sold in the open market for 50-75k over MSRP upon delivery. That would be someone buys the car, and quick flips it.
I'd love if others can confirm if they've heard this (FWIW, mid pandemic, a local dealer was selling a 2017 Targa 4S with 25K miles for 179k and I almost lost it when I saw the price).
All I can tell you is that the Targa market is a niche market within Porsche and the 911 space so, if this is the car that you want, just buy yourself a used one. If you are looking to save money, you might as well look for an older or high mileage Targa. Any new or used 992 is going to cost you a significant amount of $.

Back in April when I took delivery, another salesperson said his client would give $50K over MSRP if I would give him my car.

Lol.
Point of reference for the UK. I bought a May 2022 Targa 4GTS in July 2022 - amazing spec with 900 miles on the clock. Ended up paying exactly 10% over MSRP.
