I just picked up my 992 c2s on Friday and noticed how much the overhead center console light was bothering me. It is too bright at night. can't dim it without affecting the rest of the interior lights. I like it dark inside when I drive at night so I just put electrical tape on it. Talk about a ghetto fix.
Works perfectly and you can still see the warning lights but they are dimmer and not as in your face. If you want it even darker you can double up the film. It’s also completely unnoticeable once applied.
I’m amongst those that missed where ghetto became a bad word.
That said, I don’t think I’ve ever noticed those lights being at all annoying, and I absolutely hate overhead lighting. I never use the recessed lighting in the family/living rooms and only use table / floor lighting.
Lots of words are not "bad" words. It can be the usage and intended implications, not the word. It's often hard to determine when the "urban usage" of a word has crossed the line because everyone has their own line. I certainly won't impose my line here. But I do think things can be taken too far - like the taboo of using the term "master bedroom" or "master suite" to describe the primary bedroom in a house. I am interested in hearing the new terms for "master cylinder" and "slave cylinder" in transmission repair courses. Let's also consider terms like "Going Dutch" and "Getting off Scott free" that have been used innocently (or ignorantly depending on your "line") for decades but still have origins of generalization.
All that said, I do try to err on the side of sensitivity when my elder brain sees it.
I do find it interesting that certain groups are allowed the use of language and others are not. And that each thing must be interpreted with the harshest intention or implication.
Don't see color. Recognize diversity. How can I if I don't see color. Don't reduce people to their culture. But celebrate it. The great PC tug of war.
However, the light up there hasn't bothered me, and however you choose to obscure it if it bothers you, there are several non-OEM options, which depending on how you apply them, the DIYness of them may seem unbefitting of a 992, regardless of where your home is located. But who cares, it's your car.

OT, but I'm the complete opposite. Had "recessed" (flush mounted) lighting installed in just about every room in the house last year. I wanted to de-clutter. That being said, my wife insists we have lamps (that we never use) on our night stands in our bedroom.
