Default Porsche Connect renewal

Hi friends,

The Connect services just expired on my 21 C4S Coupe. I use CarPlay primarily and value being able to connect to the car via the Porsche app, so in this case, is it best to just do the connect services subscription vs the full version? Am I missing anything?

Thanks.

Isn’t it 3 years free?

That’s what I thought, too? I have a ‘21, and don’t recall having to renew my subscription….unless my wife paid and she didn’t mention it to me?

In Europe it is 1 years free.
Then you have to renew the subscription on your my porsche Shop profile

It looks like 2022 it is now 3 years free: https://connect-store.porsche.com/us/en?model=911_2022

For 2020 it was 1 year free (and I think 2021): https://connect-store.porsche.com/us/en?model=911_2020. I renewed because it's not much money and I like being able to send address to my 992 via the phone app and via my laptop. I do it all the time and use PCM navigation, not CarPlay.

I too, never use CarPlay, but the PCM instead.

Didn't renew after one year. No signal after I leave Fairbanks and don't need messages read or consult the weather or update maps. Waze is free, so are myriads of weather apps plus when I drive I'd like to drive not receive messages (assuming I can get a signal); and lastly not interested in AT&T or Verizon etc. Just another cash line for Porsche IMHO.

On the Macan I kept getting reminders and had to dive into the PCM to find a way to run these off. On my 992 they sent me a message about renewing, I replied, "please stop not interested" and that was it. Nice.

After cutting the umbilical cable 4 years ago or so just more savings...

I didn't renew my subscription and to be honest . . . . I'm not really sure what value it had, I sure don't miss anything. First, my cell phone has unlimited data and I use that as the hot spot for the car. Second, I use a Garmin GPS with Smart Link, which is far more accurate and much faster and Third, I have an Apple Air Tag buried in the car if I want to know where the car is. FWIW, my insurance company is willing to give me a whole $16 per year discount to have the Porsche Connect ($230/year) Security System in operation. If I wanted that sort of a system, there are far better and far more useful systems available. If and that's a big IF, Porsche were to offer the entire package for something like $20-$50 per year I might consider it. Otherwise . . . someone sold a really nice PowerPoint presentation to the older folks at Porsche who are far to unfamiliar with the electronic marketplace. They got promoted to their positions in upper management in the 1980's and they're still stuck there, unfortunately.

Yes - 2020 was 1 year free - 2022 is 3 years free.

Sending route destinations to the car on the app ahead of actually jumping into it is a very cool feature, I use it all the time (never use Apple CarPlay)

^^And if you’re not running the app, you can do it through my.porsche.com.

I don’t believe Carplay is tied to the subscription.

I just paid for 1 additional year.
I do not use Apple CarPlay but the PCM gps.

I cancelled after 1 year and use CarPlay daily for Waze and Apple Music. I’ve used the PCM Nav 3 times. People have been reporting 99% of the police I drive by on Waze. Works great.
