Default PTS GTS discussion

I'm in the process of finalizing the build on my first new order 911. Obviously, PTS is an individualized decision weighing uniqueness, value, and some element of resale. I had a wonderful 991.2 GTS that I sold last year and it was GT Silver. My M2 Competition is Hockenheim silver. Both are great, deep colors, but german silver. HS is AWESOME. But as a good friend of mine says 'eventually you'll buy a Porsche with color'. I've been a Carmine Red fan for years and gave up trying to find my 991 GTS in that color. Its my current pick. I'm on the list for C2 GTS and mentioned PTS and that is going to be an option if I want it.

My background tastes:
Love GTS mantra more than a GT3/touring etc. Like the daily superhero usable gentleman all-around car aspect that GTS provides. I like the blacked out bits, centerlock wheels - the unique GTS items. I have a Rivian R1S coming next year as well and the 3 colors I'm down to are Launch Green, Forest Green and Rivian Blue (see at the end for examples of those colors). Those are Free, $1500 and $2500. Also I don't know if I want to buy 2 green cars in a year OR two similar blues.

So long story short, I will keep the GTS fairly standard in exterior appearance and prefer Carmine or a few select PTS options. Car will be PDK with FAL, RAS, 18ways. Black/chalk interior with 930 package and Alcantara headliner.

The PTS decision tree
While I like them, any white, silver, purple or pink are out. I am not cool enough to buy a Rubystar GTS. I like Red, Blue and Green and Yellow

1. Uniqueness/value - Porsche has a really good base selection of colors. Blue has Shark a vibrant sporty color, Gentian, beautiful deep metallic, Green with Aventurine and Python in similar vein. I'd hate to get something that's just 1 shade off the base option. For the $3270 colors to a PTS, if I skip the gloss black exterior package, we're only talking a 2500-5k difference (variety between Sportdesign painted skirts, and black calipers. So its not huge but Shark and Rivian blue pull out a lot of the flat blues due to those reasons.
2. Resale - hard to say if a PTS GTS even has any inherent merit. But I would keep that in mind and not get sepia brown (unless I was doing a Targa with a cognac exclusive interior but that's about $215 the way I'd build it)

Contenders bold means already chagned mind since 7/31 ha
1. Carmine Red - backup color if PTS out
2. Gemini Blue - configurator champion, not sure about real life
3. Bahama or Speed Yellow -wife says no
4. Nogaro Blue - changed mind
5. Yachting blue - awesome color, very muted. wife said meh
6. Racing Green - wife changed mind
7. Pastel Orange - changed mind
8. Superior Red Metallic - very cool, made the top 10
9. Carbon Black Metallic - PTS black doesnt make a ton of sense

10. Manaus/Pantone 296c - see 8/7 update

11. Irish
12. Smyrna

Thoughts? I've got a long wait. This stuff is fun.

Check this link out. It's from the Porsche Club of America. Hope it gives you some ideas.

Thanks, I’ve exhausted Rennbow, PTSRS on Instagram and searching here. I know what the colors look like but just thinking about the vision on a GTS. Sometimes you can get tunnel vision on your own and it’s just nice to discuss it, especially with people who have no vested interest in your car. It’s as free of bias as you can get.

and helps pass the time well into 2023

Just FYI, there's a stop order on all PTS allocations until at least First Quarter of 2023.

Gemini and yachting are great colors, fjord green is one of the coolest I've seen that hasn't been played out. Speed yellow is classic. I don't think any PTS colors will have a resale problem unless it's really obscure. Some guy had a cherry red and that was really nice too.

Hockenheim silver has to be one of the most bland colors I've ever seen. I pray Porsche does not ever take that color up. And yes, lots of people love it - but then again, lots of people love chalk

I was recently having a debate about color and PTS. In my opinion, the best advice the forum gave was "before you spend $11K go see it in person somewhere."
A plane trip to PEC where you might see it is probably worth it.

On the other hand, I did get to the Stuttgart Porsche Museum and as luck would have it, some drivers were meeting and I got to see a Python Green in person. This is one of the non-PTS options I was debating, so that was helpful and fortunate.

I've ordered a 992 GTS in Guards Red with the GTS black interior, but have thought hard about Racing Yellow. I was looking for an aggressive color that worked really well with all the black trim, and there is lots of black trim on the GTS. I found darker colors made the black trim fade away and so there isn't that bold distinction. Not sure which one would hide dirt and dust better; my current 991.2 CS in GT Silver hardly ever shows dirt or dust, so I'm hoping going to GR (or even RY if I were to change my mind) will be good in that way also

The only value I can add to this thread is that if you order any PTS color on a GTS variant, you will not be able to get the high gloss black exterior package added to the configuration, not even via CXX. I just finished building mine last week, made those matte black bits painted same color of the car via CXX. Which is how I wanted them anyway.

Also, if Carmine is what you want per top choice just get it. Will go well with GTS interior package in black/carmine. Best value too.

Good luck!

Rivian Blue and Carmine Red looks like a winning combo to me. No need to splash out on PTS... but if you do end up going Gemini Blue, I think you should go for Truffle Brown instead of black

Here’s a nice Gemini on Truffle. I think the color is close to what I want but may look a little washed out. I gave a detailed 45 min presentation on PTS blues to my NP and PAs today and let me tell you…women see color differently and it’s actually kind of nice hearing relative unbiased opinions.

I stopped by the dealer and grabbed Yachting, Neptune and Carmine. Neptune isn’t an option but I like Manaus/Pantone 296C

My wife and I don’t agree on blues. I love, Shark, Mexico, and miami. She thinks those are hideous, but loves that Gemini blue, and variants of it.

Ironically got the call Friday that I have a December build slot!

Went through all the colors with my wife (who doesnt care unless she does if you catch my drift)

Final 3:

Irish Green with Black Calipers

Manaus Blue / Pantone 296C

Smyrna Green

Interior will be black full leather w chalk stitching, 930 package and racetex headliner, leather wheel.
I think I'd go
- Manaus - red calipers red seatbelts, no SD side skirts (add GT3 matte later)
- Irish - black calipers and chalk belts, no SD side skirts (add GT3 matte later)
-Smyrna - black calipers and chalk, SD side skirts

Adding $8000 for yellow PCCBs just isnt something I want to do right now, so I'd have to cut FAL, 930 package

To me - Irish is the most historic and saftest choice and will do well if I sell (and could even push to justify PCCBs), Smyrna is the coolest and most unique and Manaus is cool and safe. Could also consider Albert. To my eye the blues dont differentiate themselves enough (and Shark and Gentian are amazing standard offers)

@protamine can’t go wrong with any of your choices. Please note that with any PTS color
choice, the exterior black bits on the GTS cannot be made high gloss black (front lip, side skirts, window trim and rear fascia) which is very unfortunate how Porsche has aligned the configurator to not accept this option in conjunction with PTS, unless done via CXX at untold $$$$.
