Default 992 Three Year Service

The time is rapidly approaching when 992 initial delivery cars in USA will need three year service. What are dealers quoting as cost of three year service. I see that spark plug replacement is on the three year list. Many owners will be low millage. Are they replacing spark plugs at dealer generally high prices.

I could be wrong, but isn't spark plug replacement mileage driven as opposed to time driven?

In 911's they are also on time, mainly because so much road crap gets back into that area they need to be removed before they corrode into place. On my 991.1 I did them myself based on time, not mileage. Was not particularly difficult as lone as you have wobble extensions. Some are harder to remove than others based on options ordered with the car (PASM on the 991.1 for example, complicated removal of the driver's side most foward plug). When the time comes to do my 992, I'm sure I will do it myself as well. Good time to put an exhaust on as well because you have to take the bumper off to replace the air cleaner elements and the wheels to do spark plugs. Once you have those off, the exhaust is easy to do!

I might be mistaken, but I believe the 992 air cleaner set-up has been revised, so now you don't have to remove the rear bumper cover. I believe they're accessed through the rear wheel wells now.

I had the spark plug service done on my 992. I don’t know if I was the very first to have it completed, but I got there by miles.

Correct. Access to the air filters is through the rear most rear wheel well liner. Plugs will require removal of the turbos. Not sure I will want to tackle that.

As I recall on my 991.2 C4S it was around $1800. A shop can tell you.

That's good news! Was a PITA to take off the rear bumper cover to change air filters on the 991.1. Not hard, but mostly annoying. Guess we will have to see what plug replacement will be like - that might be an adventure! I've not got under my 992 to see the plumbing at all - but I have removed several turbos off diesel trucks and they are easy to do. Then again, its not a diesel truck, right?

Plugs require removal of the turbos? Forget every 3 years then, I would only do it based on mileage. I have a BMW from 1995 with the original spark plugs in it, runs perfectly.

Just a quick comment about a question that came up about my C2S at its recent 1 year service. I only put 3k miles the first year and asked about the required service in the next few years. The service consultant mentioned that because I’m not putting too many miles on it, that the spark plugs could be replaced at 4 years instead of 3.

Replacing spark plugs at 3 years is cheap insurance.

People here will change oil seemingly every month, but yet skimp on something like spark plugs .... once every 3 years?
