Porsche engineers like messing with your head. Seems to be working.

Garage door opener in the PCM - that does not turn on when in reverse and occasionally decides to turn on based on GPS - forcing us to get the old fashioned garage door opener. Seriously, haven't had one of these in 30 years?
TWO, and I mean TWO assignable buttons - had like 16 in my BMW at one point.
There are many more - the car driving experience helps make you forget about some of these things, but seriously, on a car produced after 2020, some of these are just laughable.
And that damn sunroof switch Seriously, you shouldn't have to "think" about some of these things..
You could always sell it and buy another BMW? That was a joke .

Seriously though, I have it direct from one of the designers who was behind the 992 interior that it was intended to revisit ideas from pre-996 cars. The whole horizontal design theme is because of that, likewise the 5-dial gauge cluster (and yes that’s not perfect I know) but personally I think they did a great job integrating traditional with modern. Far better than so many new cars where they simply slap an iPad or similar in front of the dashboard and call it done.

Oh it looks good - it just doesn't function good

And yes, as much as it pains me, I'll take it over an iPad. I had the whole touch thing in my 2003 GS430 - the longest 39 months of my life.

This thread had me confused so I had to double check my car. Does your sunroof really work as you described? Mine is push down to open, pull up to close, just like the windows.

na, what I said was... "I get it - they thought "we will make it like the window switch - push down to open, pull back to close". But seriously, that's the direction the window is going (push down to lower, pull up to close) - the sunroof is pulling open and pushing closed. Told my dealer to reverse the switch. I don't think they can or will
Drives me crazy."

Meaning, they mimicked the window switch "push down to open, pull back to close"
but the sunroof itself is technically "pulling open and pushing closed" when you look at it - so the switch should be the reverse.

ha - but as I tell my staff, if you never say something, nothing will ever change
(technically I tell them "if you don't ask, the answer is always no")

I would also say most every modern automatic transmission with manual shifting on the center console gear selector is also the same for me. Had a year 2002 BMW 5 series that was pull towards rear of car to shift to a higher gear and push toward front of car for a lower gear. That felt natural to me and I can’t recall another car like that in recent memory.

I do not know how PDKs/slush boxes with stick selectors work (like an idiot I had a Cayenne loaner yesterday and can’t remember) - but at least the PDK shaver selector in the 992 cannot confuse me because it does not permit shifting.

I think the 992 interior with MT is far superior in looks, ergonomics and function to my 991.1S interior which was designed in 2011- 12 years ago. The only thing I prefer in the 991.1S interior is the PDK shifter. I have no issues with sunroof switch because, like others, I deleted it and spent that $1600 on other options. I use the two “quick” buttons for A/S/S disable and home link. I also disabled A/S/S in “Individual Response” which is what I use until oil to operating temp and then switch to Sport or Sport Plus. Problems solved. I have had no PCM issues. I enjoy driving the car. But, that’s just me. Your options may differ.

Same here. Ive had the car over 6 months now and I still have to think about which way to rock the sunroof button for a second, every time.

In their defense, when the same switch is mounted above the rear view mirror like most vehicles (e.g. Macan) — the rocker switch does make perfect/natural sense in that orientation.

Isn't the idea that the switch moves in the direction in which you want the sunroof panel to move? Seems intuitive enough. (Assuming it's the same switch that the panoramic roof in my Macan uses....)

Huh? No, that's exactly the problem. I would think you push down on it to get the panel to descent downward onto the car and close, and pull up for it to lift up and open. It works in the opposite way, as the OP outlined.

Or, it works like the other two windows where you push down to open and pull up to close. Maybe it's just me, but intuitively, it makes sense.

On the cab (two buttons... actually 3, including the wind screen) you pull the open button and you pull the close button. You push the windscreen button to deploy and stow.

I have exactly three complaints about my GTS.
1. The sunroof switch
2. how bright the cabin is at night.
Electrical tape blocking those airbag lights and that stulid spot light is my easy fix.
3. No easy way to shut off the big screen. I wish I could program the open switch for this.

first world complaints...
