Default Launch of 992.2

Hi all,

First time post!

I own a 2018 4 GTS and want to order a new one. However I hear that the 992.2 facelift is due soon. I am worried I will order one and get an allocation of the 992 before the facelift comes out. I have read that the dealers can find GTS allocations easier than any of the 911 models (as i understand it's their highest profit margin of the lot).

Has anyone any idea when the 992.2 is going to be released?

I would not presume that the 922.2 will be all upside.
  • Spy photos have already shown an interior lifted from the Taycan with the analog tachometer being eliminated.
  • The intakes up front are going to a larger number of vertical slots — a step backwards on the appearance front.
  • Particulate filters/GPF will undoubtedly make their appearance for the global market as Porsche has been saying for a while.
  • The modest regularly scheduled facelift power bump will be offset by GPFs and added weight.
  • Expect performance hybrid Turbo cars and a mild hybrid drive system for the Carrera/S/GTS. Added weight all around.
  • Substantial price increase for mid-cycle refresh cars to reflect supply chain challenges and updates.

If you want a 992, I don’t see a lot of compelling reason to wait for the 992.2. Given that 992 depreciation remains virtually non-existent, you could buy one now and trade it in for a 992.2 if the car turns out to be a meaningful update.

By the time you actually get an allocation, and the time your lock date comes, it’s probably going to be the 992.2 face lifted version.

Unless of course, you get an allocation today and it locks in a few months.

Don’t even bother worrying about it at this point.

Once Porsche formally announces a new car there will be a dilemma, but not now IMO

You may be mis-informed that GTS allocations are easy to get. I have seen more regular C2S allocations and very few GTs ones'

Just emailed the dealer and explained I only want facelift and he said they can't take an order for a 992.2 and will only place order once it is launched. But he doesn't have a clue when that will be.

Just get on the waitlist - you’re looking at a timeframe of 18-24 months at least to get a GTS. 6-12 months to get allocation and then another 6months waiting for build/delivery.

Would you rather he spun you a line to bank your deposit? Sounds to me you're getting an honest response.

My thoughts exactly. The analog tach being gone alone is a huge issue with me (though the others you mentioned end up mattering more) - I don’t get why the rush and always appreciated Porsche holding off on that. I get generally we always want the latest and greatest but there are a few times where latest is not greatest… just look how many of us miss the glory days of NA engines…

Detansinn is right again. The Taycan interior, filters, weight gain, and hybrid batteries are all negatives. New is not always better.

GPFs were one of my reasons for wanting a .1. And honestly, the car is great, to which I wonder if you actually want a 992 if you want it facelifted.

I will be very surprised if the 992.2 has a hybrid variant? IMO, the hybrids will come later, and after the 992.2 has run it’s course.

Disagree on the 992.2 sentiment. It will be better. The mid-cycle refresh is always better. Looking forward to trading in my 992 base for a 992.2 GTS.

Tell me removing the analog tach is not so! Everything else Det mentioned I can live with, but that tach was the last saving grace...
