How about the inside door panel instead of that montrosity on your console.
This is what I was thinking. While the 911 doesn’t have a ton of storage space, the center console and door pockets are sufficient for shades, pens, keys, mints, etc.
The OP mentioned things flying off the passenger seat but adds a tray with loose items in the car that aren’t going to be friendly in the event of a true emergency braking situation and/or collision?!?! ….and to store things that can already be easily stored/secured in the vehicle?!? I don’t get it.

But regardless, I wouldn't do that to the aesthetics of the interior. Honestly, get something like this to put on the floor behind either the driver seat (to access when getting in and out) or passenger seat (if you feel you need to grab something at a light, etc.). I put 2 pens and some mints in my back driver door pocket and my sunglasses in the front driver door pocket and my phone in my pocket or on the wireless charger in the center console and I'm good.
All-
As I have heard from others on here, I have had an awful hard time with where to toss my things when I'm driving. Even keys, some mints, a few pens. Whatever. When I toss them on the passenger seat - they just fly off and disappear. So just like a Manhattan construction project - I thought "nowhere to go but up". I found this on Amazon, and it working well for me. It makes the center area a bit more busy, and difficult to reach some of the controls. But it is a tradeoff I am at least willing to try and get used to.
Farvin
Function does not always win against form. I rather keep the pen and mints at home than violating my interior with that monstrosity (just being honest, but we all have different taste). To be honest, what exactly do you need a pen for in the car? Mints, okay, I get it but never had to sign a check while sitting in the car. And to be sure I can sign that check I need 2 pens? Just wondering. I only need to switch between prescription sunglasses and regular glasses. That and my phone and some mints fit nicely in the center console. What else you need storage for?
