Default While I wait…options help?

Hi all,

Got my name on a list for a future 992 Carrera S (manual), been digging through these forums about all the different options and opinions on them. I built this configuration based off of those and what I want for the car.

Won’t be tracked, more of a weekend car for the backroad mountains and weekend get away. Would like to stay around the $140k range

Some of the options I haven’t been sure about are:
- Rear Axel Steering
- Upgrade to LED-Matrix design?
- GT Sport Steering Wheel in leather
- Trim inlays in Matte Carbon fiber (look good?)

Looking forward to hearing and thinking about what you have to say while I wait my year….

Rear axle steering - since it's a fun driver for you it really adds little value AND if you get it you have to deal with all the pain and suffering associated with the lithium ion battery. NOT worth it!
LED-matrix lights - currently NOT activated in the US although legislation has "approved" the functionality. Hard to know when it actually will become functional in the US. Kind of a plus / minus currently.
GT sport steering wheel - absolutely YES! Your hands touch the wheel when you drive - things you have constant contact with greatly improve the experience. While you are at it make certain you get the heated one or you will regret it.
Trim inlays - plus / minus. Looks nice - pricey - adds little to the overall experience in my opinion.

Good luck!

I’m in the same boat being on the list for a Carrera S manual and waiting about a year. I don’t think I’ll miss the rear axle steering, but I can’t say this from having driven the car. I’m definitely going GT steering wheel as I find the difference in my S4 and M4 steering wheels to be night and day. I’ll go with the glass sunroof since I’ll be giving up my convertible M4. Other than that I’m just going PASM, premium package, black trim, sports seats plus.

Great! Thanks! Good to know about the headlights, seems I can just stick with the normal ones.

Appreciate you taking the time to reply.

Sounds like it’ll be a great car! Waiting will be hard, but worth it and not much we can do about it.

I wonder whether those who say rear axle steering isn't worth it have ever driven a car with it for any extended time. I have it on my C2S manual, and think that it is fantastic. In addition to crisper handling--especially at moderate speeds, the tighter turning radius is really noticeable and appreciated. As for the lithium battery, note that they last anywhere from 2 to 2 1/2 times longer than a conventional battery, so that means a replacement probably won't be necessary for upwards of eight years. Most owners aren't going to keep their cars that long. I know that a few people have had problems with them, but a defective battery is covered under warranty. In any case, I'd wager that the vast majority are going to find them to be problem free for the duration of ownership.

Don’t forget the grain of salt.

Nick Murray is great if you want a car that Nick Murray would buy.

My ‘20 C2S manual came in just under $130k, prices have risen a little but with changes to packages the same spec today comes in at $133,110 list. I don’t have rear steering, front axle lift, or sports exhaust and to be frank I don’t miss any of them. On the road I’ve never wanted a tighter turning circle, I guess if you lived and drove on tight inner city streets it’d be handy. On the track I Iike how you can get the rear end to move around on the throttle, and face it if ultimate lap times were the priority we’d have PDK’s anyway. And probably a GT3 at that.

Point is, a moderately spec’d car is just as much fun and enjoyable to drive as something loaded to the hilt.

Warranty on that battery is void if the car isn’t driven at least 6,000 miles a year, which is probably 95% of 992s 😁

When I spec’d my GTS out, I analyzed each option based on how much it adds to the driving experience. I think a lot of people get carried away thinking it’s their forever car. Even people with all the money in the world get bored of their $3 million dollar car.

How would they void a warranty based on too few miles? That seems illegal.

awe come on. . He is very clear that they are his beliefs and there is no better overview of all the options out there.

Q.) RearWheel Steering
A.) IMHO, A lot of added complexity with little real world benefits.

Q.) Upgrade to LED-Matrix design?
A.) Only if it can be made fully functional before I took delivery.

Q.) GT Sport Steering Wheel in leather
A.) Yes

Q.) Trim inlays in Matte Carbon fiber (look good?)
A.) I believe the fake CF look is a passing fad. Leather or wood make for better choices in the long run.
