Really love the V1gen2 professionally installed with a blendmount. Easily tweaked in all sorts of ways via bluetooth and instantly connects with my phone. I know the uniden Rx and escort 360s are similar in performance, and haven't tried them. Just very happy with how the valentine, once driven past false alarm sources a couple times, filters them out so completely - it is very silent in places where other RDs have been chirpy.

One is not a replacement for the other. They are complimentary.

Agreed - problem with just Waze, if there is not a lot of cars to report accidents, police, etc. Waze will then have huge gaps. I find this to be most true in the evenings, weekends, back roads, etc. You can look to see how many users are on the roads, and if not many you know you will have gaps - thus having a radar / laser detector is a must IMO.

K40 uses the same internals as the lower end Uniden detectors....it may do a decent job, but you can do much better for the money. AS others have said, Uniden R8, Radenso DS2, Escort redline 360 and V1 Gen 2 are the way to go. The detector will not be covered by Porsche regardless of who installs it....if you use mirror taps or tap a fuses to install another detector, just remove it before taking it in for repairs related to the electrical system.

It can be both, depending on configuration. Some folks use ALP for laser detection/jamming and another unit for radar. But ALP also offers radar for a small upcharge. I do that rather than deal with a second unit/company. My place is so busy that when I went in to talk with them in May the earliest appointment was the end of July. They often do front/rear ALP with an Escort 360 or other of that ilk but I’ve had 2 ALPs in the past and never had an issue. Plus, my windshield will already be cluttered with the dash cam (that Porsche should include).

I’ve been using my ancient Solo and Waze in the interim, but I never speed.

Although the ALP website looks like a joke, I hear good things about the system and am looking for an experienced ALP installer in or around Seattle or San Francisco. Could do Portland as well.

Any recommendations?

What you need is what works for you. It’s not one size fits all. If you have an android phone, if you don’t mind a little settings fun, and if you want laser integration, if you would like all crowd source alerts incorporated including waze and law enforcement aircraft via ads-b then V1G2 with JBV1 app on android only is the bargain bomb. Vortex radar dude agrees. I use a cheap box (130 bucks) to incorporate my android into the pcm so it views as an iphone. double win, oh jbv1 app is free, triple win. The only issue i’ve run into is upgrading v1g2 too soon. If it ain’t broke...... and now the voice button I did not pay for works. One up on pcna, well until they figure out a way to get more coins. I really like my car, don’t need a gt3, I keep saying this over and over until I believe it, kinda like the news. just had to get political didn’t I. I digress.

ALP with their Net Radar front and rear is the best you can get for the price. I pulled my system out of my old car and I’m actually installing it in my Cayenne diesel this weekend.
Two laser jammers in the corners up front with a TX sensor in the middle and the net radar under the bumper and you’re completely covered. Two jammers in the rear with a net radar head and you’ve got 360 degree coverage.

The K-40 does a great job at marketing their units but they don’t come close to what ALP and others have to offer. I’ve been shot with laser more than 30 times with my current system going well above the limit and I’ve never been pulled over! It’s worth every penny!

R8 hands down. I also had the R7 previously and it’s outstanding.

Valentin 1 Gen2 would be my 3rd choice.
