Default High speed activation with power steering plus?

I searched but could not find.

I read a description on a Porsche technical page for Macans and wondered if this is the same for 911's

"Power Steering Plus is available as an option for even greater convenience. At high speeds, steering is tight in the accustomed manner. At low speeds, greater steering assistance is provided for particularly effortless maneuvering and parking."

You need to search for "posts", not threads. There's plenty of info on the forum.

I realize people pay for this but I never felt like slow speed steering was challenging. Maybe if you're driving an Alfa 4c....

I have that feature and seems to work fine. But can't tell how it would be w/o it as I don't have a comparison. I think it's basically the same at high speed as standard option but maoesnit a little easier to turn at low speed or stand still. All my previous cars came standard with that feature, so I kindnof expect it.

On the surface this option seems silly as I have never had an issue turning the wheel of any car I ever had that had power steering-that's why they call it power steering.

Am I missing something?

it is the high speed part that I am asking about....not the low speed.

I did not opt for the PSP on my 2020 992 C4S, but did get it on my 2022 992 Targa 4S - so have driven both.

Firstly it is only active at slow speeds (think in a parking lot) under 5-10 mph - is when you notice it. Once you are past that, it is normal meaning without PSP. There is some documentation on it for the 911 and how it works.

I ordered it on my most recent one, as I was curious if a difference, and it was under 200 bucks. Honestly you barley notice it, it is easier at low speeds to steer, but really not that noticeable, maybe just a little less effort in steering. There is no difference once you are at speed as it is deactivate per the description in some of the manuals.

I wonder why it is activated at high speed with the SUV'S

I assume because with or without it the Porsche power steering is optimized to be safe and improve handling at high speed. SUV's are maybe the other way and by standard they are optimized that even a small person can turn it in parking lot and handle less ideal at higher speeds. Not uncommon and that how most speed dependent power steering started out - make it less loose at high speed.

I read the quote above as just the opposite of what you are seeing:

"Power Steering Plus is available as an option for even greater convenience. At high speeds, steering is tight in the accustomed manner. At low speeds, greater steering assistance is provided for particularly effortless maneuvering and parking."

Meaning at high speeds there is no assist =
accustomed manner...
And conversely low speeds steering assistance is provided...

I think people confuse "power steering plus" with "RWD".

"RWD" is very noticeable at slow speeds in a parking lot. Helps makes the car feel smaller and more nimble.

I have no idea what "power steering plus" does and have never checked the box. I think this can also be activated by your Technician if you have a good releationship

I think you mean Rear Axel Steering (RAS) rather than RWD = Rear Wheel Drive.

Back in days when lot cars were the norm my dealership put power steering plus on EVERY lot car . Why not .. its easy commission . It was never the dealbreaker but I wasn't happy about it . I never ordered a car with it . I find it completely USELESS !! It does absolutely nothing at any speed . It does cause huge forum debates though . Just to test my own philosophy I decided that since I bought 5 Macans and my wife is the primary driver I'd ask her . She had no idea which of the 5 had it . For the record 4 did not . The one that did she drove 42K miles .

Its not. You are misunderstanding what the statement is telling you. It simply means that the effort required to turn the wheel at low speeds is the same as when at full speed. Its a low speed assist for parking lots, nothing more. I have it on my 981 and its just a software hack that cost them nothing considering the steering is all electric. At the time it was only a $250 option on my car, which in Porsche option dollars is equal to them giving me $500
