Agree with most - I've never even seen my steering column (or noticed). Maybe if you are doing it for your passenger? But there are better things to spend $540 on, no matter how expensive the car is.

I'll pile on...save your $$ and skip it. You'll have bragging rights with your non-Porsche buddies who will think you've lost your mind.

Go buy a few nice bottles of wine or a nice dinner or two out.

The biggest joke and insult in Porsche-World is deviated stitching. On a 992, in the USA, its $ 3,650 as of today. I own a furniture store and I sell the best leather furniture made in the USA, by Hancock and Moore.

https://www.hancockandmoore.com/

It's the "Porsche" of leather upholstery. Do you want to know what we charge for deviated stitching? Nothing...zero...zip. Just ask for it and we add it to the purchase order. When I am at the factory in Hickory NC and talk to the sewers there and tell them what Porsche charges, they cannot believe it. One of the ladies even showed me how fast she changed the bobbin, about 45 seconds on her machine and she quipped "Now I get $ 3,650 for doing that? How much they charge to put air in the tires, $ 2,000?" And then laughs all around.

The Black./ Bordeaux leather on my 992 comes with deviated stitching and I don't even pay attention to it. My wife's Macan in Truffle has it as well, its OK, but not worth paying extra.. My Cayenne GTS does not have it - and I don't really study that, quite honestly. You guys have money to burn if you pay for that option, but then you will skip PDCC at $ 3,170 that you WILL notice every time you drive the car and makes a considerable difference in comfort and handling? Well - like they say, your money, your choice, but paying for colored thread I will never do in my cars.

Only my opinion......but I think it looks like a toaster cozy.
Money better spent elsewhere.

I just love staring at my steering column.

Yes it looks nice when you’re staring at it, but it’s one of those things that are pointless for $500. Like race-Tex seatbelt outlets for $500.

Thank you very much.
I have a black/bordeaux interior - with the steering column in leather.

When you select this option, it comes in black leather with red stitching, and is a very nice little touch that matches the rest of the red stitching on the dash - definitely noticeable "all the time"
Is it a "waste of money"? - I'd argue that every cosmetic option is - but I'm glad I "wasted" mine.

So what's everyone's thoughts on the Extended Dashboard and Door Panel Package in Leather for $3k+? Noticable in addition to the leather interior?

Leather steering column casing is def a "waste" of money in some regards, but that's true of most Porsche options. It does make _more_ sense if you've selected a leather color other than black (in which case, the steering wheel casing matching your leather color would be desirable) or you've opted for custom deviated stitching (in which case the leather steering column casing adds another deviated stitching surface).

If you’re getting deviated stitching or a different leather color than black, yes get it. Standard black interior, then no not noticeable.

Here is a 718, but you get the idea…It’s very visible and enjoyed while in the car.

Valid argument and point. However, you can get black leather or black leather with chalk stitching for the same price. What Porsche charges you for is deviating it to another color and while they shouldn't charge that much, they've found out they can and those who want that level of personalization will pay for it. Also that deviated stitching goes into places like the steering wheel, etc. that does cause them to have to make changes they otherwise would not. Can't imagine then what you might say about the Exclusive Manufaktur or Heritage interior options. Those are much pricier. Personally I think if you opt for the EM package at like $16k, you should get Deviated Stitching at no charge, but guess what, it still costs another $3,650. As to PDCC, I won't get that on a 911, just don't want it. But I did get PASM Sport, RAS, and even considered PCCBs.

Unpopular opinion here, but for 500 bucks on a 200k car to me it’s a no brainer to tick that box if you went with a leather interior and deviated stitching. It finishes off the interior perfectly. If you didn’t option deviated stitching, I’d say you don’t need it.

Neither will make a difference. I've had both above on my 2014 GT3 and did not check the box for those two upgrades on my 2018 GT3. Never even noticed and spent the money, instead, on PCCBs.

I don’t have it in the TTS with a black interior with chalk stitching. Never really miss it. Touring has the EM interior, so it comes as part of the package. I went all out on that build and did all the extra leather that was available, but I wanted to build something special for myself.
