Default Rattles and buzzes - one sorted

Here's a funny one that may be of interest to others. My car has had an interior trim type buzz that comes in at freeway speeds, coming from the back somewhere. It's not persistant and wasn't there on delivery. I had it in a couple of times and of course they tried to fix it but no go, despite days in the shop and claims otherwise.

Anyway, I'd put it on the 'one day' list because it really wasn't worth another trip to the dealer. But this week I'm doing a bit of driving with a work colleague around LA and the buzz re-appeared. To which he swung around and found the source in like 2 minutes. It was one of the rear seat belt buckles. Easy fix - buckle the belt up, noise gone. Yep, didn't I feel look an idiot!

Oh - the car is OK with it buckled up with no-one sitting there but complains loudly if you unbuckle it on the move.

The rear driver's side buckle on my wife's Cayenne does that sometimes. My Panamera as well. Just a matter of moving the buckle so as not to strike the seat while moving.

Good catch. I’ve got my own little buzzes and rattles, come to accept them as “features” of the car

I turn up the stereo and open the sunroof.

Had exact same issue and fixed it by buckling the rear drivers side seat buckle.

Excellent !
I've had similar experiences in the past.
Having a second person is huge help finding interior noises.

Having the engine in the back, essentially right below the rear seats, give this car an unusual predilection for cabin buzzes, I’ve long suspected.

Yes, it seems every time I find and fix the source of one buzz/rattle, I find a new one. It's a challenge for my OCD, but I'm trying to convince myself to just let them go and enjoy the car. I tend to think Tupper is right. Cabin buzz is just a reality to one level or another with these cars.

I would say that after 4K miles, the rattles/buzzes is the only thing I have been disappointed about with the car. Luckily, the car is already fairly noisy, so I don’t notice them as much as I might with other cars.

I took mine in to have a rattle fixed in the speaker and the dealer techs broke the plastic tabs on the door card making things worse and the new parts won't be in for 6-9 months. I was afraid of exactly this happening! Dammit.

Man, do I hear ya (ie, making things worse).

About a month ago, got an email from BMW saying that my car’s 3G was going away, but they will provide a FREE upgrade…so I called my dealership to find out what was involved. I was informed that they need the car for all day, as the dash has to come off to make the upgrade. I said no thanks. Right now, my M4 has no rattles, and that’s the way I want to keep it! 👍

The nice thing about Cabriolet is that I usually drive with the top down (when the weather allows) and so I don't hear any of my rattles.

But then I hear the "cha-ching!". But the "cha-ching!" is far less annoying than the rattles.
