There's a reason every car guy has a 911 variant in their garage. Chris Harris, Matt Farah, etc - they might have other stuff, too - but a 911 is core. I don't know any that give a dam about AMG offerings. Maybe older ones, if they're into classics - the Hammer, 500E, etc.
Who else are you thinking of?
In fact, I would guess that many many here on Rennlist do not have a 911 in their garage. (In fact, one of whom is actually a contributor to this board and thread and his handle begins with "d" and ends in "n"). Are those Rennlister's not "car guys"? If so, I would imagine they would like a word with you.

I never owned an AMG GT car , but has driven them extensively as my friend had one , and drove them on road Atlanta ,
I was much more impressed than I expected with the performance, driving experience etc
though overall , I will take a 992 variant over AMG GT car

I was considering an AMG GT before I decided on my Targa GTS. Ultimately for me I plan on keeping this car a long time so I felt the 911 was better for that. If I were leasing or just keeping it for a couple years, I’d be happy with either car. I think the AMG will depreciate more, so it probably costs more to drive over the same period of time, but that’s probably not too much of an issue with cars at these price points.
Unless you are talking AMG GT Black series, in which case that would be hard to pass up.

The used GT is selling for under its sticker price, because today’s demand isn’t white-hot like the 911. However, clearly people know and respect the car. 2021 is the last of its model so it won’t look obsolete for a while. So, I’m thinking that it’s value will not crash any time soon.

I know damn well I’m justifying. I should just stop dwelling; drive both cars back to back in the same day and choose.

I briefly considered the AMG GT, but decided on 911 because of the many areas where it excels - better depreciation, usability, reliability, visibility, etc.
The AMG GT certainly has more presence if that's what you're looking for.

I'll chime in one more time. I am a new 992 owner, but I think many here absolutely underestimate the GT not to mention the GTR. It's a phenomenal car to push hard and i personally this is stunning! I can't speak to used car prices but my brothers in the business and they just sold the last, new 2022 regular GT for 50,000 over at their store. Pretty sure they're also "desirable".

Chris does; Matt does not.

no, googling indicates he has an early 911 converted to a safari - and interestingly a 718 spyder which went down on the felicity ace.
i can’t speak to what happened to the venerable d….n - i think he lost his mind

otter car guys with 911s - rogan, seinfeld (huge collection)… list goes on and on.
the iconic 911 is in an entirely different league from anything amg offers - whether it’s driving dynamics, performance, or even romance, the appeal is next level.

There are plenty of people that own 911s. Porsche has literally made more than a million of them. Despite the propensity of many owners to keep theirs in the garage, it’s the definitive, daily usable sports car.
The AMG GT is a great car with fantastic presence, excellent front mid-engine manners, and is considerably more luxurious. Hand-built engines with a great exhaust note. There’s a lot of wonderful little details. Heck, when you’re parking, the cameras that you find on a Mercedes put Porsche’s stuff to shame. It’s a car that my wife and I seriously considered a few years ago.
Will people care about the AMG GT in 20 years? Well, it’s being replaced by a 2+2 and the next two seater Mercedes will be an EV. There’s a strong possibility that the AMG GT might be the last Mercedes two seater with a V8.
PSA: You’re allowed to own more than one car or one car make. There are RennListers with Alfas, Aston Martins, Audis, BMWs, Ferraris, Jaguars, Lamborghinis, McLarens, Mercedes, and other marques alongside their P cars.
