I don’t have a 992 (yet), but I posted something about this in a Taycan forum a while ago. The 992 manual looks the same.
If you check the manual, the location is way down on the bumper. It’s not near the crest.
The Taycan manual says you can also just place your hand at the location. The 992 manual only says swiping but I would be really surprised if they are implemented differently.
My Taycan opens consistently by just placing my hand at the location shown.

Also always amazed that her car can display the rear camera view while the car is driving regularly. I thought there was some regulation against that also?

I’m always amazed that my wife’s Model X doesn’t have a safety latch on the frunk. I thought that was federally mandated? But Tesla plays by different rules.

There may have been a change to the rules or latch mechanisms.
The McLaren 12C had a secondary latch on the front trunk area, but the newer 720S no longer does.
