I am not uptight about such things.

For example, I’ve got a great chassis tuning guy. If he wants to borrow the car for the day, he’s welcome to it, because he always comes up with great ideas for improvements. It helps that he works on actual race cars.

If I don’t trust a mechanic to drive my car, I certainly don’t trust them to work on it.

Build relationships with the people that work on your cars. Collaborate with them. Don’t treat them like subjects or servants.

Ouch. Hope the owner is made whole. Or as whole as can be.

Driving a car to destroy it is so old school. They can do that now without ever leaving the service bay

In all honesty - it's unfair to ask someone to fix your car and prohibit them from driving it. No offense, but that's a little silly.

Avoid jackass shops and, usually, you'll be fine. If you get unlucky...well, s**t happens and that's why you (and the shop) have insurance.

This is why Facebook is the actual harbinger of the Apocalypse. People read a clickbait article about an individual event and think that it will absolutely, definitely apply to them.

Also, your car is not a one-of-400, irreplaceable vehicle.

You can add valet goons to that list. Learned that lesson the hard way years ago.

It was 3 degrees out, and looks wet.

The guy is a Ferrari mechanic, one qualified enough to work on an Enzo, not a mechanic from Midas.

Accidents happen, and to write off all mechanics is just dumb.

Totally agree with valet driver comment. . I would NEVER, EVER let a valet driver (unless I knew the person) drive off with my Porsche.

Like this guy -

Something like this happened to me. My Ferrari was rear ended by an uninsured driver while on post service drive (driven by the mechanic). Luckily no injury or real damage to the participants or the car - the car was rear ended at a stop light because the other driver was distracted by their phone and was too slow to brake.

The insurance pain was worse.

”If I don’t trust a mechanic to drive my car, I certainly don’t trust them to work on it.”

I treat the techs at the dealership with respect and I actually give them a Amazon gift card after they’ve done any work on my car. But I’ve had too many issues over the years with screw ups where good technicians just aren’t paying attention. Had an axle fall out of E 46 M3 on the freeway. when they replaced the differential they forgot to tighten the bolts that connects a half shaft to the differential. Thats why I do all of my own work unless it’s something that involves major work or buying expensive parts that are covered under warranty. Fortunate to have the skills and tools, lift, to do most things. (Built my first go kart when I was 12.) Should be OK for a while as long as when I wake up I recognize my surroundings! Carl

Paint and metal. Don't get hung up on your car being 'precious'; it's replaceable and repairable. Rather than tell a mechanic they can't drive it perhaps find a more trustworthy mechanic.

I think your idea of giving the mechanics an Amazon gift card is brilliant! Great idea. Since most who own a Porsche are well off, why not spread some gratification around. We need more kindness/gratitude in the world.

This "old hippy" couldn't agree more!
