After one year owning my new C4 and driving 7,000 miles, my brake pads are at 8mm front and rear. My dealer says it's fine, but it seems low to me.

Has anyone upgraded pads halfway thru pad life? Would the rotors require to be changed?

 

I haven’t changed pads with 7k and 4 track days. Plenty of pad left. Two of those days were hard days. It was the stock fluid that was the weakest link. To answer your question about rotors it all depends on minimum width spec in millimeters. Anyone know the specs?

 

Zero chance of needing rotors at that age. Fwiw, for my street cars I basically *never* change rotors - IMHO the $tellers will try to scare you in to changing rotors just to line their pockets rather than any functional or safety reason. The braking systems are massively over engineered for street use, drive with confidence.

 

21,000 miles here, swapped out the standard pads for some DS2500’s a while back (can’t recall exactly when sorry) and kept the original rotors. Now the DS2500’s are pretty much done and the rotors have some solid ‘contours’ but they’re not actually worn much. However I’ll likely replace them with the next pad swap just because while I’m in there it’s not much extra time to do them.

We're running stock pads on the track? I have a new, June delivery 992 GTS with 1500 miles on the odo and two track days, 1 in Sept at Thunderhill and one at Laguna in October. Not sure if I want to change pads for them.

 

yea stock pads. You will be fine but definitely recommend upgrading the fluid. I can’t speak though for hot summer temps. I was tracking in the fall.

 

I did 3 HPDE's on OEM (Pagid) pads on my 992T and still have 40% left (f), 30% left (r) when I replaced with Ferodo DS2500's all-round. Then I did another HPDE and appreciate the tenacity in which they slow me for the Bus Stop Chicane at the Glen from 145 mph a bit more than the OEM pads. No fade, no squealing, no decreased performance in fact the warmer they got the better they performed. Brake dust seems to be on par with Pagid OEM

 

The DS2500's on my car went on in March 2021; since then I've done 1x Big Willow and 2x Laguna Seca. Now they're done, need replacing.
