Default Waze issues in CarPlay

Does anyone have a reliable workaround for Waze CarPlay issues?

I've had an intermittent problem with Waze via an iPhone 13 Pro in either wired or wireless CarPlay not identifying my location properly (often thinks its in my garage) in my 2020 C2S. Iv'e read several conflicting articles of the culprit (one below) including comments about the fact that CarPlay uses the in-car GPS receiver - and have found no sequence of workarounds that work consistently. I've tried killing the app on the iPhone which sometimes doesn't seem to kill the app in CarPlay?, rebooting my phone seems to work - I think, kill the app - then going to the in-car GPS for a minute may have worked once? None of which are things I can do while in motion.

Waze has been a hot mess since the CarPlay update. It’s not a PCM issue. Waze needs a lot of bug fixes.

I often have that problem where Waze doesnt know where I am and does not track me. My solution when that happens is to set a navigation destination in Waze. It then finds me and all is OK. I then "Stop" the navigation to stop it from giving me directions.

I’ve tried Waze in 3 cars recently and had the same issue in each one; my 992, our ‘21 Mercedes GLE, and a ‘22 Kia Sorento. It just doesn’t know show the current location 90% of the time, mostly it locks on some random place and stays there unless you kill the app and/or disconnect the phone from the vehicle.

Killing the app on the phone seems to work for me. Also does this in every vehicle I use carplay in, including a couple rental cars. Definitely not exclusive to 992.

I have found that if I go into "Airplane Mode" briefly then back, This can fix it quickly.

Killing the app on my phone and relaunching from the car seems to work for me.

Same as others. This happens to me in my Macan as well - probably once every few weeks or so. Unlocking the phone, closing the Waze app (with the flick up), and having CarPlay launch it again always fixes it.

Apple CarPlay is garbage. It's terrible software. I always have to open the app, close it, and reopen it. It's CarPlay, not PCM. Have the same issues with TIDAL and Google Maps. Fire up the app on the phone, set in your route and hit start, and then connect it to the car. That usually but not always works, but defeats the purpose obviously.

I try to remember to have Waze running before starting car, but the best solution I have found is to plug my iPhone into the USB cord that is connected in the center console. Works everytime.
