Swapped PDK for Manual
Hello friends,
I purchased a nicely optioned 2020 Carrera Cab base PDK aventurine green in September of 2020. I daily drove the car for most of the nearly 14 months and 20K miles. I owned a 1973 914 (manual) back in the 80s, a 1995 993 Carrera base (manual) in the late 90s and then a 2013 991 (Agate Grey) which I purchased new and kept for nearly 3 years.
I was really tempted to get a manual but I came across the aventurine green base and decided to take it. First off, that car was brilliant. The drive, power, sound all amazing. Having not owned a manual for nearly 30 years, I really was missing that engagement but I wasn't sure I'd want to live with one full time. But, I'm starting to get concerned that manuals won't be an option in the near future so I decided to make the change.
A couple weeks ago I decided to get on with selling my base Carrera and looking for a manual. particularly, I was looking for a 2018/2019 GT3 touring. I called Dean at Porsche Santa Clarita (great guy btw) and he offered me an amazing price from my car (the car was originally delivered new there and then traded to Downtown LA Porsche where I purchased it). They sent someone a day later to pick up the car and the deal was done. super easy.
the GT3 pricing was still higher than I wanted to go but I did find a 2020 Agate Grey Carrera 4S Cab MANUAL with 3K miles. Very nicely optioned car as well. I took the car home on Wednesday and I have to say it is AMAZING. I'll post some pics later today but I do have some initial observations:
1. I can't feel the difference in power/quickness between the base and S. my guess is that some of that is due the PDK v. Manual and that some of is that I'm not really stepping on the car (like when I was 20);
2. I liked the sound of the base with PSE better than the 4S manual with PSE. Again, this might be a PDK v manual issue. the 4S still sounds good but it seemed to me that the base PDK with PSE has a little more by way of crackling;
3. The manual transmission is truly amazing to drive. the intangible enjoyment factor between the PDK and Manual can't be explained. I loved the PDK and enjoyed driving it every time. But this manual is so much more fun at any speed.
I did get lucky and got an allocation for a 2022 Carrera Cab S. I loved the aventurine green so I spec'd the following for a May delivery.

Always happy to hear from someone that actually is driving (20k miles) and enjoying their 992. Congrats on the new car/experience.👏

Congrats - sounds like a good trade. I'm fairly certain this point is just in your head, or you aren't comparing corresponding drive modes.

You're exactly like me-drive the car, don't worship it in the garage. I don't care how many miles I put on a car never looking for future (potential) trade-in value but instead looking for instant gratification-that's why we bought it right? HELL YEAH.
