Default PCM updates question

I get googly eyed when people talk about software, because I mostly view it as WORK and not FUN.

However, my SA has told me that they don't do software updates to the PCM even when I've asked. How are you guys getting your PCM updates? Are these occurring OTA? Should I assume that this is happening?

And should I even care?

Map updates are OTA and automatic if so selected. Seems to be about every 6 months for North America. PCM updates to in car PCM have been per Porsche service bulletins and done by dealer. In the early months of the the 992 they were frequent but not so much lately. In the early days, Porsche also did updates to their PCM system server software that often required owner to re-log in and also caused strange changes in PCM owner selections. The latter updates, however, have not been a problem in last 12-16 months, at least for 2020 models of 992. OTA updates for PCM can be selected in owner settings but I have not been aware of any in the two years I have owned my 992. All done by dealer when car taken in for service.

Someone mentioned you can customize the widget to the right of Carplay in PCM. I tried to find where to do this and what options and couldn't find anything. Any help?

I believe that in the lower right hand corner of the screen there are three vertical dots. Clicking on them brings up the options. Not very many I'm compared to 2021 or older.

While the 2020 PCM does have a PCM menu option to receive an OTA software update, such an update has never become available since I picked up my 2020 C2S in August 2020. From the forum here, I don't believe that any OTA PCM update was ever made available for 2020 992s, even one that was dealer-installed. I no longer expect any PCM update to ever become available for my 2020 992. (It would seem like a small change to correct the HomeLink usability issue when reversing out of one's garage but...)

I read that one PCM update was made available for 2021 992s. I forget whether it was sent OTA or required installation at the dealer.

I don't think we should expect frequent PCM updates. This is not an industry like mobile phones, where the manufacturers focus on regular software updates and supporting old hardware (for business and/or scale reasons).

(I'm talking about actual PCM updates here, not map software updates which do flow regularly OTA)
