But today I was unexpectedly offered an allocation for a GTS, with delivery in June. Leaving aside whether this is real (I'll find that out trow), what do people think? I've read a lot and watched a lot of videos and, with the exception of Nick Murray (whom I generally think isn't bad, but in this case, I don't think he actually drove the car so...), it seems most reviewers think the GTS is the bomb or close thereto.

Moreover, there is the "bird in the hand" argument. Meaning, it could be months before I get an S allocation.

Thoughts, insights, brilliance, very much appreciated.

Thanks.
Is this car a Cab or a Coupe ? If its a cab I'd get the S . In fact I'd keep the base car and save the money. I actually feel the PDK is far more efficient with a turbo engine than the 7 speed . If I really wanted a manual and a Convertible I would be looking at the NA 718 GTS. Thats my favorite convertible in the entire fleet . Unless its a part time car and then a Spyder.

I agree with @yrralis1 - the GTS spec is great if you are looking for a Coupe. It is silly for a Cab or Targa. You are essentially getting a little extra HP, better brakes, and a revised suspension. If you might track the car, those sound perfect. If it is a daily city driver, well that's not money well spent. Worse if you are going to leather it up, you will increase the price from a S by about $12K.

Last but not least, if possible, go see the Sports Design rear end. You don't get a choice on that with the GTS - so make sure you like it.

So in short, if you are getting a Coupe and you are leaving the RaceTex and you are cool with the sports design - heck yea, get the GTS!

Get both.

The GTS now and if you don’t like it trade it in for the C2S when it arrives.

With car values nowadays you’re not going to lose anything on resale. Heck, you might even turn a slight profit.

Not necessarily:
For the $4,320, it was a no-brainer for me. Considering resale value and that I have an allocation for the GTS, there was not much to think about.

I came to the same conclusion! Targa 4 GTS on order and scheduled for a March delivery!

As of now, mine says 3/25. Time will tell.

Ahhhhhhhh I like the way you think, great, great point. I've confirmed no ADM, will get it as MSRP. Still discussing, but will obviously get something hard and definitive on pricing in writing if i proceed.

Again, love your insight, many thanks.

That only works if you want all of those "things" that are included with the GTS. I find it silly to say "if I tick all of the check boxes on the S that the GTS comes with, then the price delta is only $x". The right way to do it is "click the options you would do on the S - then go compare with the GTS similarly configured. For instance, the Sports Design package adds $5K. Were you planning on adding that? If so, great, if not, then that should not be included in the price delta. Were you going to do the model designations in black? Cool - were you not doing that? Well then.... My point is the GTS gives you some things that you may not have specd or wanted - and those are baked in to the $20K delta.

Agree. For example with the GTS sport design you need FAL in my opinion since it will be lowered 10mm. When I spec both the S costs around $13K less. But I would go for the GTS if you have an allocation.

I think "need" is a strong word.

Depending on where you live and drive, FAL might be preferable, but I really can't think of any Porsche Carrera model where FAL is a "need" unless you live in the heart of SF city or something.

Re the FAL issue, dealer manager is telling me that if I leave PASM as optioned (for zero dollars) I won't need FAL. Make sense?

CJ Wilson posted in another GTS thread that Porsche is focusing its US allocations on more of the higher margin cars, i.e. GTS, GT3, etc. The S and Base allocations will be hard to come by probably until 23 unless you're working with a very high volume 911 dealer. Porsche seems to be copying the BMW and Merc route, basing upcoming allocations on previous month's sales number per trim. If this is true...the OP may have to pull the trigger and go for the GTS or you will be waiting a while...

Interesting, that's pretty much what my dealer said to me when I asked why he has a GTS allocation but no S allocations.

Of course. But in my case, I DO want those things. I actually didn't even check "model designation in black", so maybe the delta is even smaller as I would choose that. But you are 100% right - it does not make sense to include things you don't want and then say "see, its a bargain!". It reminds me of a time about 12 years ago when my FIL got a killer deal on some flatscreen TVs, so he bought 3. Funny thing is that they barely ever turn on the TV in their media room, let alone the two other rooms where he put them. So, a great deal was still a total waste of money.
