First 1500 miles and thoughts on options
I have read a lot of reviews and found them helpful and informative so thought it was only fair that I should share my initial thoughts.
I bought a base carrera 2 as a daily driver and expect to do 10,000 miles a year. Surprised to do 1,500 miles in the first month especially when half of that time most of the garages in the uk didn’t have any petrol.
A long time ago I owned a Boxster S and never really liked how light and twitchy the steering was and the lack of low down torque. Once it was gone I didn’t miss it at all. I still had a desire to own a 911 and personally liked the changes that came with the 992. Due to lockdowns and against my better judgement I ordered one without a test drive . A couple of months later I test drove two and was happy with both the steering feel and road noise.
I am of course still in the honeymoon period and running the car in but every trip brings a smile - especially on the twisty undulating country roads where the camber is often unpredictable. The MPG is amazing - 35-38mpg on a motorway run and even high 20’s on a mix of A and B roads.
The only negatives so far are that I have the common Bose speaker rattle and don’t feel the battery is holding its charge properly. Even after a long drive it’s only showing 12v whereas I would have expected 12.7v. If there is a problem sure it will be sorted under warranty.
The one thing that I find does detract from the overall experience is the tyre/road noise even at relatively low speeds. It’s much louder than on the two cars I test drove. One of the cars I test drove had Michelin’s and these were 4/5db quieter than the Goodyears I have. The EU tyre certificates also show the Pirelli’s being 4db quieter than the Goodyear’s. Thought about changing immediately but will wait until the rears need replacing.
I can also see problems with the seat bases coming. The foam compresses under weight but does not spring back up to keep tension in the leather. Others have referred to the problem as saggy bottoms.
In terms of Options:
Gentian Blue - Love it. If not a daily driver might have been tempted to go for something brighter.
Wheels - I have always disliked black wheels but went for satin black s wheels! Think they work well with GB.
Sports Exhaust - didn’t originally spec but thought one of the reasons for buying a petrol car compared to an electric one is the ICE noise so added it to spec. It is noticeably louder when on even if it sounds a bit manufactured. Would definitely order again
Sports Chrono - didn’t originally spec and subsequently added. Not sure how much I will use it - hopefully more once car is run in. Rationale for ordering was to increase revs when in auto to provide improved response.
Glass sunroof - I like the look of the black roof and as the cabin is small definitely brings more light in and makes it feel more spacious. Doubt I will open the sunroof much. Can hear seals when pulling from driveway onto main road but otherwise not. If wanted to save money would omit
Bose - Sounds good but haven’t heard either of the other options
Exclusive lights - I like the look but know others don’t. I also think clear indicator lenses look better than orange ones….
Lights - standard leds are really good. I got the Pdls as found this good on other cars and I drive a reasonable amount at night.
PPF - thought this had been applied reasonably well but a really small stone and I mean very small has torn it on the bonnet and it looks like it has damaged the paint. Would question whether what Porsche have used is thinner than the specialists use.
Electric 14 way seats - just thought 4 way was a bit basic on a car of this value. If you can find a car to test drive with the 4 ways and get comfortable I probably wouldn’t bother with this option another time.
Privacy glass - included then took off and then added back when decided to go for the sunroof. I feel the tinting is a bit to dark but does blend better with a black roof.
In the UK we get leather as standard but added crayon stitching as a no cost option which does add a nice contrast.
I only went for reversing camera but in hindsight would probably have gone for the all round camera even though I don’t like the look of the cameras under the mirrors. You have to draw the line somewhere!

I deflated to 32/34 or so, and the problem basically went away
