dealer extras
As my delivery date is getting closer , I am wondering what extras others have added on through the dealer . I was speaking with the finance manager and they are offering up a bunch of different things from protection plans to installing radar detector , ppf , ceramic coating ....etc . the protection plans covered headlights , wheels and other things . . there was a bunch of items and she did give me prices over phone but a follow up email has yet to arrive . I have always planned on doing ppf and maybe service agreement but when I have purchased other plans in the past they went unused . I don't want to keep pushing my cost above and beyond my reality . sure do I want an integrated radar detector yes but for $ 4700 I think my escort will work fine .
thanks Robert

The general answer is that you don't want anything the Finance Manager is selling. Depending on pricing, how well you park and whether anyone else drives your car, sometime the wheel and tire insurance is only a partial rip-off and can be justified with peace of mind.

run don't walk away from "business" manager, he/she is another profit center after sales, service, parts and finance. There is nothing there you want that you can't get elsewhere for much cheaper and usually better quality.

The only exception to the above would be if you are planning to add a vehicle protection plan, AKA , service contract, purchase the Manufacturer's. Too many traps in aftermarket. Only exception to the exception, would be if you have a good relationship with your dealership and they are pushing a non OEM, make sure you trust them to make you whole if traveling and another dealership/service center will not honor the labor rate and time guide called for in the contract.

Anything but very very few items like wheel and tire will be a rip off. PPF, Ceramic coating, radar install are better handled and more economical for what you get done on your own with recommended installers.
Many of the “extras” they offer are done by outside vendors of their choice not yours with a cut going to them. I’m not a dealer hater but I also want direct contact with anyone working on my car. Plus you choose what you want not just what they offer. Just my opinion after years of Porsche ownerships not because I hate dealers.
Get the car then figure out what you want. Don’t be in a hurry to blow cash at the dealer there will be endless places to blow it on your own.

my approach is : ask my self do I need that service and does the dealer provide that service at same or close price to what I will pay .
two examples
1. PPF. my dealer provides the service and the work is done by the company that I would have used anyway as they do excellent job. Difference in price is 300 dollars.
some people might ask why waste 300 dollars ? simple answer is a. convenience : part of the PPF company deal with dealer is they pick the car in a single trailer from dealership and offer to drop back at customer house if customer desires. In our area with extended winter , that is priceless in particular as it relates to GT cars with summer tires delivered in the middle of winter
2. Exhaust : I usually do after market exhaust on most of my cars , so I have dealer order the system I want and install . If they get some discount as a dealer on system that is perfectly fine with me
and best of all , when you do these things , they remember that and next time you walk in needing a GT car or a hot selling car it pays dividend.
A lot of people talk about being on a list for X car, and they are number 4 or 5 on the list ... they never see the list .... I can tell you this is one way to move up any list
would I buy anything from Finance person that I don't need / Absolutely not

My dealer happens to have one of the better PPF operations in the city...I went that route and even owners of other PPF businesses have commented on the quality of the job. YMMV, but don't dismiss their detailing/PPF offerings out of hand. Also, buying the Porsche winter tire/wheel combo at car purchase time may save you a few dollars. Personally, I much prefer the look of OE winter wheels on my Porsche rather than aftermarket.
While not part of the finance office sell, you're also going to need clear side markers, and while inexpensive and simple to install it's just easier to have the dealer supply them before pickup. I received a Porsche-branded charger/maintainer at no cost (maybe because all Canadian cars have the lithium batteries) and while the same functionality at lower price is available with other products, you can save shopping around by having the dealer throw one in the frunk. I've also used winter and summer floor mats, but the rubber ones for the 992 are so nice I've just left them in the car through the summer as well. Again, got those at no charge from my dealer.

Thanks for all the replies, so as I think probably stick with the ppf since it would be probably done by the same person . And just get in and drive . Hopefully will have the contract done via email and just arrive and a sign and drive .I am pretty sure dealers have probably lost some sales due to not having you sit in front of them while waiting to leave . I won’t miss that part of purchasing a car . But when was the last time you waited 6 plus months to actually pick it up .

Truth. The finance dept is an auto dealer's biggest money maker.
