Our dealer in Florida also offers free car washes every Saturday and provides breakfast and treats. My wife brings her Macan occasionally but I do not let them was the TTS. If it gets swirl marks it will be because I put them there.

First don’t let the dealer do the ceramic coating. Any car even a new car needs a proper paint correction and Polish before ceramic is applied. Also if you’re planning any protective film, Xpel, it needs to go on first before the ceramic coating.
Dealers sell cars, find a pro to do your detailing work.

I don't understand why the dealer is trying to scrape commission out of a $4k bill item when I'm already spending $200k on the car. I mean, I guess money is money but still I already said I preferred a specialist.

Your comment about not understanding the dealer trying to scrape commission...that's what they do - on everything! My tire and wheel protection was $2,395 - his cost was $895..... A friend of mine did everything - the ding removal, windshield replacement, tire and wheel protection, pre-paid maintenance.... $8,500 - I bet they made serious buck there.
The fact is, the guy in the finance office, his/her only job is to get MORE money out of you.
edit: PS - you said you were "considering" a specialist.

No maintenance plan.
As a courtesy, I try to go during down times (i.e., late in the day during mid-week is a good time; weekends are bad and the cookies are not as plentiful)

This is correct. And an even bigger reason why you don’t want them subcontracting it out. The number one choice in PPF is choosing the right installer and working with them to get what you want done. Why hand that off to a dealer who's only participation is collecting a cut. Never. The idea that they will pick an awesome specialist is Russian roulette.

I wash my 992 by hand and find it very therapeutic. I have a ceramic coat and of. You really need a maintenance product after washing and I highly recommend Polish Angel Cosmic Spritz. Esoteric is the exclusive distributor of this product. I see they are a site sponsor so I take it it is okay to mention there name but I my opinion they have the best car care products.

Seems like a waste to paint correct/ceramic coat and then run it through a car wash. The ceramic coating will lock in your perfectly corrected paint and then will make the wash process MUCH easier going forward. For those that like to maintain a clean vehicle and do their own washes, ceramic coating is a miracle. But if you are just going to run your car through a car wash, inducing swirl marks and using whatever chemicals which likely arent beneficial to the ceramic coating - then whats the point? I would just skip the ceramic at that point and commit to using a car wash if thats your thing.

While I understand picking the right installer is key, the research and time spent, coupled with the confusion of which coating to go with can be mind numbing. Therefore, I think for a LOT of people, letting the dealer take care of it is a great option. One check to write, one person to blame….
Just my opinion but “easy” doesn’t mean good just “easy”.

Nothing worse than dealing with a less than acceptable job done on your new Porsche and it’s paint. A poorly done job that has to be redone with PPF pulled off and car finish repaired is about as bad as it gets. The hassle in dealing with this makes the hassle of searching for a highly recommended installer a walk in the park.

We are not going to agree on this. I’m not anti dealer but after 14 Pcars I use dealers only for specific warranty work, nothing else. Our dealer down here charges $249 an hour for labor, I guess it’s the free chocolate cookies, for what I would call just ok service. So why let a dealer choose your PPF or Ceramic installer when that’s not in their expertise. Shop an installer by reputation and reviews from fellow owners not your salesmen. I also wouldn’t order PPF from Porsche factory and I love the brand and have been driving their cars for a very long time. I also don’t buy my eyeglasses from my dentist just because they do work in the same area of my face.
But this is just me, everyone else can go where they want but if asked for an opinion I gave it.

Got my ceramic coating done by my Porsche dealer. I get my 992 washed every week through an automated brushless car wash. I don’t have time for anything more.

Salesman are really good at making you "feel bad" and splurging on unnecessary things. I need to constantly remind myself that I'm ALREADY handing them thousands of dollars. However much of a cut they get is not my issue, I've done enough for this goddamn economy.
