992 Dash Cam?

the Uniden is that much better? I really like the appeal of a dual unit. I realize that you sacrifice probably something on both ends but you also don’t have to wire and mount two devices.

As a general rule, you cannot record a third party conversation. In some states only one person needs to know (eg TX) in others, all parts need to know (eg Illinois). If the car is indoors, there's an expectation of privacy, specially considering that the camera picks up audio outside of the car. That can be easily considered wiretapping. Given you're not there, even on single consent states this is illegal as no one technically knows about the recording.
If a cop stops you on the road, then there's no expectation of privacy. Same goes for any given conversation taken outside. A conversation taken inside your car may have the expectancy of privacy, I'm sure there's some Supreme Court ruling in the matter.
Bottom line is, the way I see, shut off the microphone to avoid the aggravation. BlackVue has a feature that you run your hand at the side of the camera and it can do one specific function (like a shortcut). One of the functions is shutoff the mic. Or unplug from the footwell.

”(c) For the purposes of this section, “confidential communication” means any communication carried on in circumstances as may reasonably indicate that any party to the communication desires it to be confined to the parties thereto, but excludes a communication made in a public gathering or in any legislative, judicial, executive,or administrative proceeding open to the public, or in any other circumstance in which the parties to the communication may reasonably expect that the communication may be overheard or recorded.”
the tech being paid to work on a car with an obvious dashcam is unlikely to meet the bar for “confidential communication”
if the tech cares so much, it’s completely obvious how to attach and detach the power cable from the blackvue for the duration of the service visit. I’d consider that to be part of their professional responsibilities for servicing the car just like any other proper safety measure as with putting it on a lift or working with electronics

There are a bunch of other permutations of this that make worrying about it kinda paranoid
“Although California is a two- party state, it is also legal to record a conversation if an audible beep is included on the recorder and for the parties to hear.”. Blackvues always announce themselves when they power on.
further, the dealer isn’t an independent party. They are in complete possession of the car and are authorized to service it. So they’re the ones voluntarily making the recording. And the tech isn’t independent of the dealer. So the dealer is recording themselves, and consequently all parties consent.

I get it, the Unidens of the world are a big purchase, it took me a while to take the leap too. But I doubt you will regret it; I can point to multiple times when that little box, without question, has saved me some very expensive tickets. It will 100% pay for itself the first few months you own it.

Been researching dash cams quite extensively and came across these 2 brands below which seem to give a OEM look.

It seems a few people have it installed over at the Taycan forum (https://www.taycanforum.com/forum/th...ams.816/page-4) so curious to know if anyone has one installed on their 992?
I for one am not comfortable at all with removing trims on a £100k+ car fearing I might snap bits off and running wires down to the side of the car etc, but this does seem quite straight forward and more tidy!

I'm not at all concerned with the privacy thing. I remove my detector now when I have my cars serviced as too I remove my sunglasses, firearm(s), etc. that all have legs. I'm looking for an install that I can take in and out and use in multiple cars. I don't want to hardwire the camera. May just end up with an Escort since I already have a Max 360 detector that works fine. I know the Escort camera is not the best technology but all I ask for is something as video backup should an accident occur. I have a level of confidence that accident investigaters have a level of expertise and the video will just become an extra level of data. I do appreciate all of the recommendations and have not made any decision.

I use thinkware. I have also heard good things about blackvue.

FWIW, Vantrue vs. Blackvue, in a 992:

I hear you on this and I used to be the same way - but it's only scary the first time Those components are much stronger than what they look or what you think they are. Just make sure you get dedicated tools for this - get yourself a quality trim removal kit from Amazon and just take it step-by-step. It's really not that bad once you get over that first removal.

A Dash Cam is also good at preventing a Tech from overdriving your car when servicing. This tech forgot the C8 has a built in data recorder which fully documented his 148 mph joy ride!

I have an Escort M2 ordered since it is a clean install with my Escort 360 detector. The M2 was just released so I’m going to be a guinea pig…

I also ordered the Escort M2 dash cam to go with my Uniden it’s for my Audi Q7 since my 911 will not be delivered until December. I will report back.

Theoretically it’s going to be an option for December allocations.
