Seats:4-way vs 14-way vs 18-way

If you are of average height, not obese, and don't have any musculoskeletal problems, you should find the regular seats to be just fine. I have the sport plus seats and the elevation issue has not been a problem. That being said, it's such a personal thing that you really should test the options at a dealer - if they have any cars.

Something I forgot to mention - another advantage of the 4 way seats is that they save roughly 100 lbs over the 18-ways. To me that was important as I want as light a car as possible. Manual transmission, two wheel drive, and base sport seats - I am saving roughly 300 lbs over your typical C4S PDK car. PCCB would save even more weight, but for me wasn't worth the extra $9K.

I had the 18 way S+ seats on my 992 C4S - great seats..
For the 992 Targa 4S - I ordered the 4 way S+ seats. Here was my logic.
I loved my 18 ways, some of the most comfortable seats I have ever had. I did not use the lumbar nor the adjustable front leg bolster - ever, so the 4 way to me were more than enough.. I also put things in my back seat and using the front and back positioning switch took quite a long time, so a manual lever is quick and easy.
Then I also read something that the 18 ways (and the 14 ways) were over 100bls heavier. The targa is heavy enough, and I did not use the functions, so went with the 4 way sports +
The only thing I will lightly miss is the memory feature, but again that is 2 seconds to slide up or back when needed. I also got surround view on this new order, which before I only had the basic, so backup should be equivalent without the tip down mirrors that comes with the memory feature.

One consideration in terms of looks is I believe the sport seats are uniformly colored on the back vs. the sport seats plus which I believe are silver plastic unless you pay for the leather upgrade.

18-way. My wife praises them as the most comfortable seats of any of my cars -- that makes them a cheap option in the big picture. I've spent 17 hours straight in them and could have kept going.
I understand that folks, who are um... of significant carriage, don't fit as well in them, but if you're of more typical build, they're the way to go.

My SA who is built like me (6'1" 220, not fat) said the 18 ways have a protrusion that hits about 4" above the knee on the outside of the thigh. He said it's a hard piece of plastic and very uncomfortable. I'm in love with being able to adjust the squab and this is the main reason I want the 14 ways combined with lumbar support (2 herniated discs will do that). My $.02

I was just at the dealer the other day with my wife and this exact discussion came up. We agreed on the 18 way sport seats because I like the sport seats. 18 way because with sport seats it’s either 4 or 18. I had originally chosen 4 way because I’m a simple guy and prefer simple things. But the thought of spending this amount of $ on a car and finding it uncomfortable to drive or even slightly uncomfortable would drive me nuts. With 18 way, I know I’ll find at least a few configurations which I’ll like

Bottom line if you don’t know what fits you, gotta sit in them or risk regret. On the flip side it may work out fine. The question is do you want to risk making a wrong choice for yourself by not taking the time to try them out.
Seats are the component that you will feel the most and for the most time of the ownership experience. Does anyone really want to risk holding back a couple thousand on a six-figure car? Figuring out what is best for you the buyer is part of the fun (IMO).
Personally I like the 14 ways.

i have the 14 ways on my 992. the other day I say in one with 18 way, I instantly felt the difference. I would go with one of the sport seats for sure on my next one. Really makes a difference for me. Im 5.11 and weigh 250 lbs, a more supported seat is always welcome.
If I had to choose between SE and 18 ways seats, I would choose the 18 way seats. I can always at cats down the road.

I love my 4 way SS+ in my 991 GT3. 600 miles in two days was very comfy and I have back issues and a lumbar fusion. Which means, you really need to pop a squat in them yourself and make the decison. I'm 6'1" and 205 pounds for reference.
