When To Place An Order For MY 2023?
#3
If you haven't ordered or aren't already in line for a 2022, you're likely waiting until 2023.
Dealers will gleefully take a deposit now, but you're not going to see hard allocations for 2023 until late next year.

Thanks for the feedback. The online configurator has been driving me nuts. And since no 992 models are available in my area, I've scheduled some drive time at PEC Atlanta in the next couple of weeks. Hopefully, this will help me nail down my particulars.
If interested, this is my current build code:

2023 allocations should start being distributed in late April, early May. Most dealers have a wait list, so placing an order now likely means MY 2023.

So my understanding of the initial "order" process is that you give the dealer SA a spec list with your selected vehicle and options along with an agreed deposit amount and purchase price and basically wait until the dealer has an allocation that they are willing to let you have. Sound correct?

Depending on the dealer wait list and the wait for Porsche to distribute allocations, the time between you placing your order and actually getting the allocation varies.

Q.) When To Place An Order For MY 2023?
A.) April/May 2022 and only if/when the dealer has an actual real live allocation and can provide you with a confirmation number within 72 hours of placing your order.

I'd say if anyone is serious about getting one of these cars - call your dealer now. Worst case -- the allocations comes earlier than you like and you pass it along to the next guy in line. Odds are you won't do that.

- Sometime in September 2020 I requested a test drive and was given a half-*** test drive (long story)
- I was told there were no 2021 911 allocations at the moment and that they had expected them to become available early January 2021. If I wanted one of those allocations I would need to leave a $1000 deposit and when the allocation becomes available I would need to provide another $4000, $5000 in total for them to accept my order. At this point I left the $1000 deposit.
- Sometime in November 2020 I received a call from the dealer stating the allocation was available and if I want to move forward I will need to provide the rest of the deposit $5k, in which I did.
- Within a few days I received the track your dream link and the count down had begun. I did the PEC Atlanta experience and told my dealer that I wanted my car delivered around May 2021 since I was in a lease until May. They made it all happen and I took delivery May 26, 2021
I hope this helps.

The process I went through was the following.

Being a first time prospective Porsche buyer, this info is super helpful. Thanks! I find it very interesting that an allocation became available just a month later after they told you that one wouldn't be available until January. I'm not sure if it's possible, but perhaps they secured an allocation from another dealer? The requirement for additional funds to secure the order is interesting as well. I kind of understand it if it was an oddly configured build or a car that the dealership thought might be tough to sell.
Another dealer I was also negotiating with told me since I chose yellow they would need a deposit also. The deposit was to protect themselves if I decided to not take the vehicle and potentially having a car sitting on their showroom for some time that is hard to sell.
