Winter Tires?

Can’t speak about the Conti Winter Contacts, but I have owned other Contis and been very impressed. I have Michelin Pilot Alpin 5s and they’re amazing in the snow, ice, etc. The limiting factor is the car and the ground clearance, but the PA5s make the car feel capable of any weather. I did just order a set of the new Conti Extreme Contact All Season DSW 06+ for my daily driver as they are rated number 1 on Tire Rack’s Ultra High Performance All-Season list, ahead of the new Michelin Pilot 4 All-seasons which are number 2 and more expensive.

I’m pleased with Michelin Alpins. You would be pleasantly surprised to see how when the car handles at speed at how well in corners on dry roads during winter.

Anyone here has Michelin Pilot Alpin 5 on a GTS?
My dealer offered me those with the dimensions 305x30x21 for the rear but I thought that the winter tire dimensions were 295x30x21...
Cheers & Godspeed

Thanks mate - but I really thought that you need to run the smaller ones (295x30x21) for winter...

The narrower 295s might be a bit better for snow/ice traction, but the stock summer size in 305 is readily available in Michelin and Goodyear N-spec winter rubber and fit the stock 21x11.5 wheels. The 295 would also fit of course.
Honestly either would be fine for cold weather/winter driving with the exception of severe snowy conditions where the 295 width might give a slight advantage over the 305. But, then again, the 295 isn't exactly a narrow tire either...

Fully agree on the grip level with the 295 option and good to know that I won't be the only one on the standard sizes

This is probably a dumb question but I don’t know the answer. For winters it seems the 295 width works for the stock 11.5” rear. If my wheel is 12” on the rear, would the 295 still work ok?

Here's a table for reference.
