Is the back seat of the targa actually smaller than the coupe? I get the access issue because of the targa bar but is the volume of space less?
In previous models. the backseat space was much smaller in the targa than the couple.
I have middle sized kids but still need to pick them up from school. I was hoping the new GT3T would have back seats but no (I have one on order).
My SA told me the Targa backseat is the same as the Cab backseat which is indeed both narrower and shallower / more upright seat back to make room for the top.
I haven’t been able to see one myself yet no dealership local to me has had an 992 Targas deliver recently. They do have a 991 Targa that I’m hoping to check out and see how the car seat fits.
I also have a GT3T deposit down and was disappointed the car won’t have back seats.

Here are photos I found of the 992 Targa backseat compared to the coupe. As others have pointed out, the Targa seat is more upright (seems to slope forward) and is narrower (you’ll notice the side panel with the speaker sits flush with the seat bottom on the Targa but in the coupe that panel has some shape too it which creates some added space around the seat base.
But looking at the photo, it seems fine for young kids which would be my use case.
The backseat in the Cab is definitely smaller than the coupe in width. And the seat backs do seem to tilt forward, although that might be an optical illusion and they’re just more upright compared to the coupe. On the other hand, with the top down you have excellent access to the backseat for strapping in children, loading groceries, a couple of hundred pounds of floor tiles, etc.
I've had adults in the back of my 997 cab for short runs. Well, I’ve had my wife there. She was too good a daughter to make her mother sit in the back.
Yeah, I’ve figured that out now. But at the time of ordered it’s not intuitive that if you pay $3200 for the extended leather door and dash that the stitching wouldn’t carry through to those pieces.
Had you skipped the extended leather door/dash would it have carried through?

I would go all or nothing. The full deviated stitching up charge is not as good of a value without the Extended Leather which adds a lot of additional stitches.
If I were building a more price sensitive build and skipping the extended leather, I’d probably just do black stitching. Either way, I think just having a handful of chalk stitches looks half-done. Even without the Extended Leather they skip the center console, rear center tunnel, etc.
Having owned both a 991.2 Targa and cab, I ended up in a 992 Cab. Loved the Targa and it was my 4 season DD. A rack is not an issue for that car as the Seasucker is a solid high quality “aftermarket” option. I used the scissor ski rack with it and the only down side was that the rack could not be locked to the car. I have no use for the rear seats so can’t comment on that but definitely felt the open air benefits of the Targa (along with the beautiful lines) gets the nod over the coupe for me.

Woah, if that SeaSucker rack can indeed support a bike at highway speeds, Targa is a no brainer. The Targa looks boss.
