In 2020, my dealer told me MRM on a C2S was $141,700

The equities market and 22 times next year’s earnings valuation has strange effects on car budgets!! Enjoy.

Yup, Edmonds presently says $139,937 for a 2021 C2S. Since I paid $139,850 (before my 3.5% Discount) for mine, I'm feeling pretty good about my Porsche life! LOL

Help me understand this - the goal is to buy a car now close to MRM because thats the projected value in the future? Or after depreciation? I guess I'm having trouble understanding why the MRM is important.

It’s not as important nowadays. Traditionally, Porsche uses MRM to set lease residuals. It’s a metric that could be used to predict future resale (or at least the point where additional options are sunk cost). Theoretically keeping a build at or below MRM suggests your losses on resale won’t be excessive. Whether or not that’s true is debatable.

I like to know where Porsche draws the line, but I don’t really limit myself to it. I think MRM on the 992 TTS was $235k, for instance, and my build came out to $240k (sticker). My 992 C2S was about $147k (sticker). Of course, discounts meant I was under those numbers, but I don’t really build option heavy cars. That’s just my preference. I opt out of all the nannies (because I don’t like them) and that usually saves a ton of money.

Thanks. Is that the price that the dealer targets for a car with options?

The only time I judge somebody over the price they paid or the options they got is if they put their or their families financial stability in peril. Other than that, everybody can get the crappiest options and change cars every year, it's their money to spend. Of course I would still put forward my opinion about a build if they ask but in the end, whatever makes them happy.

I also tend to be wasteful with money on cars (i.e. buy new cars, get bored in 2-3 years, but another new car), so I learned where to spend and where to save. But resale value and what other people or the dealer think has no affect on how I option my order. These are my mistake and my lessons to learn

Its the maximum price that Porsche is willing to residualize for a lease. So if you are leasing a Porsche and spec it with an MSRP above the MRM, you will need to come out of pocket up front for the delta above the MRM.
