992 base vs 4
#16
Curious on people’s thoughts on the different driving dynamics of the base versus the AWD. I’ve never owned a Porsche and am looking at the 992 base. I’ve had some people tell me they can be harde to control under hard acceleration and have suggested the Carrera 4. I currently have a 2016 BMW M3 (RWD), which is basically a 50/50 weight distribution. How different is the 992? Is it as easy to spin this thing out as people are telling me??
still trying to find one I can drive myself to get a sense of it.

My C2S has no issues with traction in day-to-day driving. If I want to make it step out I can, but it’s a concerted effort.
Of course the C2S has PTV+ while the C2 does not, but still...heavy rear end combined with wide rear tires provides a *lot* of traction.

AWD does little to nothing on snow or ice. It contributes zero when braking for example. Winter tires make all the difference and are a must have in Chicago when temps may fall below freezing (October - April). I ordered a set of 19/20" Carrera wheels for about $4500 to swap as that was close to aftermarket wheel cost and likely to be easier to sell after I am done with them. If you have ceramic brakes you will need the 20/21" set. Having two sets of wheels extends the life of my summer set. My dealer will store and swap but I just do it myself. I do drive my Jeep Wrangler in deep snow a few weeks during the depths of winter, mostly January, but the 992S is not garage art half the year. I think 2WD cars have a more pure steering feel and less weight overall and over the front axle.

I live in NY and we get a fair amount of snowy days. 992 2S performs as well if not better than 991.1 4S. Dedicated winter tires for both. No contest for me 2S , even in the snow. Granted 991 vs 992 but 991 are great cars.
